How big of a covert hunter ya got there jinks?

a small one...but I have a much larger one coming in about 14 weeks.

 

Jinx can you chrono that outfit?

I also have some heavy arrows that I run out of my home made bow and my hex6s.

I got 159 fps out of my #45 static
645 gr. arrows. About 14.33 gpp.
Piledriver 250s.

The hex 6 at #52 660 gr. arrows
165 fps piledriver 350s. 12.6 gpp.

They both hit with authority and appear to fly faster than the chrono
Indicates.

Lou...these are the same 3 arrows before fletching them with 3X5" LW Shield Cut Feathers that with heavily glue tagged ends front and back?...added 15grs too these....

29" Long CX Mayhem Hunter .350 Shafts w/ 250gr Points that weigh 570grs "Bare"....

 

The shape of the trajectory is dictated by launch velocity and then by drag, REGARDLESS of what kind of limb launched the arrow.

Sorry. I know. Physics sucks.

 

Also by momentum (crap there that word again)

 

I'm sure there must be a velocity dissipation formula just like the coefficient for bullets.

Shape and wieght but in this case at these velocities I wonder what effect shaft diameter will have.

A big factor tune aside is total fletch area. I run 3 three inch feathers. Straight, offset or hrlical must show a progression all else being equal.

My bows are roughly 30 and 35 yd. point on. That is well wiyhin my needs.

I know this...you can not have two objects that share the same shape, size and drag then launch them at equal velocities and expect the one that weighs an ounce to travel anywhere near as far as the one that weighs a pound.

And I think I just described that dirty word Sid mentioned earlier...

"MOMENTUM"

cause without it?....there is no such thing as "drag"

 

Sorry folks...didn't do a great job of demonstrating what I set out to show folks here which is?...well?...here's what I put in the "Comment" box...

The purpose of me videoing this was an attempt to demonstrate how the big hook "Super Recurve" limbs of my 60"/45# Borders Hex7 Covert Hunter throws 585GR/13GPP arrows fletched with 3X5" feathers with a trajectory that is just as flat (if not flatter) than shooting 200GR lighter 8.5GPP arrows off any 45# conventional limb bow I've ever owned and?...hits with far more authority....what an amazing little bow with huge performance from Scotland!

But I failed miserably cause I can't really..."See The Arrow Flight"....very well at all.

Maybe I need to spring for some tracers or lighted nocks and try again?

You cant leave out ballistic coefficient and then say - now energy and momentum dont matter.

Thats how they are accounted for in the equation.

 

Pull is what happens before anything can be dragged.

I know my arrows velocity....and I've chronograph results for 420gr, 475gr, 520gr, 570gr and now with 3X5" LW feathers?...585gr arrows that move at 178fps at 13GPP off this 45# Covert Hunter.

My only problem is getting my mind to accept their flatter long range "Carry" cause I'm just now learning how much lower I need to aim to compensate for such.

 

Well?....I tried to give you folks...

"A Light Show"

and I read and followed the instructions but it seems the product failed miserably.

I got one test shot off and the nock lit up like vegas and with a slight tug afterwards?...it did in fact go out and functioned as advertised.

So I got the cam set-up and shot and?...nothing...no lighted nock.

Upon closer inspection the nock was in fact...

"Inward as far as it would go and abutted up against the shaft"

but no light...and it trying to pull it out again?...it came out in pieces...

and I'm glad I only tried one because the base part liberated itself from the lit nock part and got slammed down the shaft I.D.

which was no fun getting out because I now had to remove my super glued in insert...and then poke it out from the nock side going in from the point side.

Nocks are going back to Bass Pro...(still have the receipt)...but the bow?...

is staying!

 

You should be competing with shooting like that..

 

Nah...that was my 3rd end tonight..my 1st end was (2) high 8's and a high five...2nd end was two 8's and a 10...and then I got that...and trust me...they aren't all like that. :lol:

I still seem to start out shooting high with this bow...but it's not the bow...it's me forgetting to get my string hand hammered up tight under my cheekbone at anchor.
