Hoyt GameMaster II - ILF conversion by jonhdo

After trying many ILF metal risers in 21" and 19", I actually came full circle back to my Hoyt Game Master II, except it wasn't ILF. I could swap bushings on most limbs, but not my Kaya kStorms since their limb wedges are quite flat, and of course there's no adjustability on a bolt down.

So with my favorite riser in mind - and to be specific my favorite grip - I managed to pick up a GM2 and off to jonhdo for his ILF conversion.

If you don't know already, jonhdo is both a craftsman and a gentleman. His work is outstanding and everything went smoothly. I also got a plunger hole for shooting off the shelf - and jonhdo also kindly added an adjustable centershot screw.

It shoots awesome... my only regret is that I should have waited for a black riser to pop up... anyway, it's been rectified with a can of spray paint lol

So without futher ado - here's the pics:

The milling of the ILF slot:

The replacement limb bolts and bezels. VERY nice. And it takes a 3/16" hex key... no more pesky 7/32 Hex key like the Hoyt original:

Close up of the adjustable centreshot screw:

Kaya kStorms mounted - you can see the limb wedge is very flat, so I've got the bolts fully turned in (and slim strips of rubber on the riser under the limbs.)

Mounted - all is straight and true:

I couldn't agree more except mine would have referenced the Dorado riser. I've had just about all of them and preferred the Dorado riser to all I've tried--but it wasn't ILF. Jonhdo took care of that in impeccable fashion.

After all these years, I now have what I consider my perfect all around ILF riser.

Reason? Sales. I wish they would too, but thanks to Jonhdo, and folks like him, it's not an issue now. :^)

Given the quality of his work and the turn-around-time (he really gets with the program. That's a joke between me and Loc), I'd just as soon have him do it as Hoyt.

Anyone want to buy a RH 19" Morrison Gen3 riser? I've got one in the classifieds. :^)

I wish I could have known Johndo back in april of 2012. I had a hoyt supreme that I loved. I was told to forget it. Then sometime later it came along as the mother of all warfs.. Go figure. Johndos' work is tops! Everybody knows it.

5/16" past center--I think.

Jonhdo, is his handle. You can PM him thru the members list at the top of the page, or he may contact you. He's been watching this thread.

I still a regular bolt down GM2, and I put some thin adhesive backed rubber on the limb pads where the bolts contact. When tuned, it is very silent - though I also have cat whiskers, velcro on the string groove and yarn on the string.

On my ILF version, with TT BlackMac Wood/Glass limbs I'd say it's very close. The bolt down would be marginally quieter... but with my current ILF 35# set up on a 8" BH, it's practically the same nice thump.

So you're not losing anything going to ILF - the only thing to be fully aware of if that the limb pad angle is not as low as a typical ILF... so you lose performance (but gain smooth draw and the adjustability of ILF). Only kaya kStorm limbs that I tested, I lost almost 10fps just by changing risers.

Daniel, that's one of Jonhdo's finest. I would like to see a nicer nut on the arrow rest, brass perhaps, but that's just me. Could you please answer some questions.
What is the mass weight of the G11, limb pad angle, deflex/reflex and length.
Jonhdo, anybody feel free to chip in. Thanks. I like it a lot. ;)

I've made similar to the square ended flipper type, but not as neat as yours. I'd love a fully equipped workshop and steady hands....oh ! and younger eyesight.

You ever sell any of those grips?

He ought to run a design of his own riser. I am surprised though at one thing.

Why is the Gamemaster riser so desirable? Now I can understand the Dorado, but not the Gamemasters.

For performance? All of them are dogs too!

You can probably buy a riser from 3 rivers Dalaa for about the same money you end up with in one after the conversion? Same with a Morrsion or Tradtech that will smoke all the Hoyt Gamemasters.

Everybody saying, "Why they did not do these in ILF?" ETC. They are probably not as fast as a Good Rambo warf with the same limbs. The Dorado maybe, but not the Gamemaster.

I commend Johndo,, do not get me wrong and respect his talent etc. But I know a Black Bear or a Proline will smoke all the Hoyt bolt downs with the same limbs.:luck:

It's all about the riser fit you better. The mass weight, grip, amount the deflex....
I have a few Hoyt Rambo/ Raider, Black Bear, Proline risers; but they're not fit me well. I have't try Morrison and Tradtech yet.
FYI, with same limbs, they'll weight same on GameMaster II and Dorado riser; and GameMaster II riser shoot faster than Dorado with same limbs.
