I am making some carbon arrows up for my uncle who currently shoots cedar. His arrows are spined 72-73 pounds. Does anyone know approx. what deflection that would be on a carbon shaft? Thanks!

Beman 500's spine 72-73# on a spine testor with 26" centers. But, my suggestion would be the 400's for your uncle. They will be heavier and a little stiffer(80# spine) but will shoot like a dream.

Carbons are an unusual shafting in that most of what you learned/been told about finding the correct spine for aluminum and wood can be thrown out the window. They only have 4 sizes to fit the whole range of bow weights so they are more universal.

I have an ace spine tester and my beman 500`s spine at 60# and the 400`s around 70#....Isnt that spine tester set at 26" centers?

Also you have to account for the 11/32 diameter for the wood shafts compared to the slimmer carbons....

If you go with the beman mfx i would probably think the 500`s would work unless you add gobs of weight to the 400`s to tune them...

I should have said, on my Scheib Spine Tester which has be re-calibrated to AMO standards for wood shafting. Incidently, Scheib is the same one that Easton used but theirs was set at 28" centers and a 1.94# weight. The Flite Rite Spine tester made today is an exact copy of the Scheib, even down to the faulty poundage scale. Can't speak for other brands of testers for but do know many of them have the same mistakes in their poundage scale.

What is the thousands reading you got on your Ace and you can measure the centers, Stagmitis?
