Further looking at the pictures on the website, it appears that the Pinnacle looks very much like the JD3.

I sent email to jager last week and never got a reply.

 

I'm interested in knowing more about the JD3 too, from the guys who are shooting it. Especially how the 'ridge' helps with palm placement and such.

Savage and I have been discussing grips for about 3 weeks. In fact yesterday, we traded grips. When I went to the range I hardly shot his grip more than a couple times, because it felt so good and shot so well, to shoot without a grip!

Think of this. If you had a project going and wanted to tighten a screw down as tight as possible, would you choose a screw driver with a handle that has an inch diameter or one with two inches? Simple answer, you'd choose the wider one because you can apply more torque.

Why would an archery grip be any different? Except in our case we want less torque. I've been using the screw driver example for 20 years. About 3 years ago I got the book 'Archery Anatomy' by Ray Axford. Low and behold, he has pictures of screw drivers with thick and thin handles, for his discussion on torque.

Now, I'm looking for a wrap. I don't want anything like hockey tape or a wrap for a tennis/golf handle. I'd like something smooth.

By the way Savage, we have to compare grips. Mine is equal on the left and right sides, yours's is not. Don't know why a grip would be manufactured like that???

Nice post Bowmania - I have some thoughts.

1 If you shoot with a very loose grip or a open hand with a sling, your hand will naturally adjust its rotation to keep the bow centered vertically(or centered at your preferred cant if thats your thing) in the lowest torque position.

2 I personally find a hand position that that keeps the top of the thumb about 3/8" lower than the top of the fingers to be preferred because it makes the difference of string slap on every shot vs no string slap at all for. Its a preference - everyones anatomy and and priorities are unique.

3 No grip at all usually provides low torque but its not always comfortable. Smallish sized smooth and rounded surfaces seem pretty good.

4 Flat surface against the thenar eminence.
This seems seems like a bad idea on a center shot bow - if the bow is capable of shooting with relatively low movement adding any torque should be bad.
But I wonder if it isnt so bad on light in the hand bows that arent center shot. As far as inducing torque goes it should be rather consistent.

Thought 4 is just ideal speculation and curiosity.

Is the JD3 narrower, wider, or the same width as your 2.0?

 

I never really saw why so many guys are so finicky about their grips. Guy I shoot with has a Jager grip, I tried it....meh.

He's always changing his grip and complaining about bows and their grips. I never really even notice the grip to be honest. As long as it doesnt hurt or slip, Im good.

I had one bow with a slippery grip [ Bear Super Kodiak ], I put some tape around it. Done.

 

The way you are using your grip is completely different from the way most people who are finicky about a grip use it.

You are using the grip to hold the bow in a set position this is totally opposed the manner used by people who want the bow to balance against the hand and move freely so the hand doesnt induce torque. .

 

The riser I purchased as two weeks old straight from border came with a grip that I'm sure sid wouldn't send to any one even for free. Also its a high grip.
I shoot it well but I bothers me to handle it otherwise like picking the bow up or grabbing it to load an arrow.

You complained about your bow and modified it. Done.

 

Got the JD3 grip on my Gillo. Honestly I was skeptical at first but I actually like it a lot.

Rcore grips is extremely responsive and IMHO fit much better.
Plus you get more options.

If I wasn't so pleased with my current putty monstrosity I'd be sending him some money. Now if only I can duplicate this for my backup.

 

I have 2 each of '2.0' and 'BEST' and now have a JD3. I like Jaeger grips because it gets hot here (AZ) and the rubber pad reduces slippage that comes with the heat. The ridge on my JD3 is not aggressive (I don't notice it now when I shoot), the pad is flat in both directions, and the wrist-angle compares to my 'Medium' grips. - John

If they are not hard to get a hold of they can have my business.

I swapped my ill-fitting Jager to another member (full disclosure of course) for an RCore that he had custom made by them. The grip to riser fit is very good. I will likely buy an RCore the next time I need a new grip.

 

Yep. That was me. RCore is very easy to deal with and has a facebook presence, frequenting "The Barebow" group. He has stock profiles to choose from as well as being able to custom build off your specs for the same money.

As for myself, I wanted a low wrist grip that was narrow. And I also like a radius. Using elements from the custom RCore grip and the Jager grip I traded to Dave for it, as well as from the grip I was using that I had customized over time, I made one from walnut, because I too like the feel of a wood grip.

For the money, RCore is tough to beat. Give him a shot!

 

Well I have been using Jager grips for many years and have met Paul every year in Vegas. I can say grips is not his full time job, he has a regular job also.
Last I checked he answers emails on Mondays, maybe something has changed. Last time I know he quit communicating was when his father died.

Haven't tried R-core.

I have tried doing my own, wanting wood and not plastic.

This grip was a pain, split and cracked on me twice, didn’t put the top brass pin in the right location so ended up grinding and sanding it out getting to shape/fit.
I do like it tho and hope to make another one of these days.
When supplies run out I want to try mosaic pins and possibly a better wood.
