Once again I commissioned Allen Shafer of TenRingStrings to twist me up a couple new strings for my Bushman Scythian and once again he didn’t disappoint and this time instead of 14 strands of D97 we opted to go with 20 strands of Mercury (as recommended by Allen when I requested something with a bit more zip to it) This is the first time in a long time I’ve ordered strings with no nocking points as I will be installing them myself but I did want to get the strings stretched in before tying on my nocking points and shot splits finger without any nocking points which is when I realized that I forgot just how consistent an archer can be without them and laughing to myself remembering that I didn’t even know what a nocking point was until my mid 20’s and I had been shooting quite successfully since age 7 LOL!

This morning from about 15 yards sans any nocking points at all and once again Allen at TenRingStrings sure twisted me up two beauties! :)

Bill ... is that string on correctly? It looks like the limb has two sets of string grooves

That’s because the limb does have 2 sets of string grooves where it can be strung as either a 60”/45#@28” bow or a 62”/40#@28” bow.

it’s “Double Nocked”
Wow never seen that before ... neat idea

Nice. Those double string grooves/tips are wild!

Sold on BCY Mercury myself. Really like the feel, the roundness esp. And you reminded me that as a kid I shot with no nocking points for a long time. I sure was hitting things without it, no idea how looking back. I say that as someone that shoots split vision / instinctive gap today.

Yep and I had to laugh at myself because I got nervous about it at first until I realized how foolish it is considering I have a Fekete Beg 5 curve made for me by Jozsef Munos that has no shelf where I shoot off the knuckle with that one. It seems some folks are able to develop “a feel for the shot” where others are so hell bent on achieving extreme accuracy coupled with extreme consistency that they find developing such an ability as inconceivable while others come by it naturally.

Do you have a reference mark on your serving Phil? I can remember what used to happen on bows of my childhood, youth and younger years where the arrow nock would sort of slide to center at the loose and via wear would eventually create their own witness mark on the serving as I let the arrow tell me where it would like to be positioned on the string.
