I owned a Fox High Sierra recurve with a stippled grip...saw no real advantage but it looked nice.

I like well done checkering. I have checkered grips on a Silvertip and Dale Dye recurve and it adds a classy look. If feels nice too but I think there is more chance of torquing the grip if it's not smooth.

I like it anyway...;)

Stippling serves the same purpose, but l don't think it looks as nice as well done checkering. I think it looks better than poorly done checkering.
