I have seen several different ways to do it but ones built like Robs pictures seems to work best and be most consistant.I saw a picture of a very nice looking one built of wood that worked the same way that I am going to make if I can find the picture again.I want one that measures by the Easton standards since I don't mess with wood arrows much.
