This is the school I attended for 12 years of my life. It was a community made up of mostly farms when I was a youngster, but has evolved into one of the most affluent communities in the state.

Hard to fathom that something like this could happen in my hometown…….

Violent crime in the US is actually down a huge amount in the last 40 years.

Media coverage of violent crime is what's up. It makes people more paranoid about a lessening threat.

Heinous acts happen today as they always have, it's just that now the web has both increased the probability of seeing them and shortened the delay. Technology, with all it's benefits is a double edged sword and with the good comes the bad.
