What is most appropriate, posting on an older thread or just starting a new one? I did Sam's warf Build-along and have some input to throw out there: have questions about a bow or two; and have done some other tinkering with stuff, ie limb silencers. Thanks

ASK SAM if he'd rather his build-along thread be left instructional on it's own, or if it's ok to add on to it with your things.
I'll look forward to reading it.

Okay. Thanks. I will see if Sam responds. I did a couple builds and am a beginner at best. And a 'dunner' too... I am done. Two of them were Proline, which have curved limb pockets, which created some challenges. Thanks

Well....maybe not a 'dunner'... I have a Sky Archery Express/ Hoyt recurve (an elephant bow) that I wonder about modifying to a usable poundage with different limbs.. That would probably be a separate post from the build-along...

The Sky recurve. The ilf plate shows the fit. I could modify the plate... or do something else. btw, the plate has been in my project pile since 3/29/10....the date on the envelope, and was made by Del Roberts...whom I just read about on an old post here today. A TD-3 Hoyt. Was originally designed for Recurves and later adapted to compounds like the Buck and Impala.
Easily converted to DAS and use ILF limbs.

Thank you Sam. I see Hoyt 3R on the handle. Is this something I can do myself without high quality equipment/skills? I don't have any DAS knowledge...but what the heck....I will giver a go...

3r is the grip height a HOYT grip 2r is low 3r medium 4r more high like a target grip.
Remove grip carefully flat screwdriver under bottom of it, pry up and out.
left side of grip frame under shelf it should say TD/3.
Great risers. either for DAS or ILF. but also great with those HUNTER limbs.

Sure as shootin...
Sam, i looked at that thread and the photo's no longer exist, so i didnt comprehend. Have never seen or held a DAS...anything. We were at Kalamazoo, 3 Rivers was there, but i looked at other stuff. The theme there was primarily wood. However that show was my impetus to come home and mess with all of my risers of the past.

I think I want to reform the Sky/Hoyt TD3 riser. It was/is a recurve....65# is too much for me. I have spent a lot of time studying old threads and the photo's do not come through. Sam sez easily converted to DAS, but I don't have a clue. Do I purchase plates from 3R or other venue......er what? I have some ILF limbs... but hey....I'll do what's best for the bow.
I smell a money pit coming....
Thanks

Drill a 3/16's hole, tap 1/4 x 20. 3/16's chainsaw file and slot equal amounts top and bottom. Very little slotting required, half a file thickness top and bottom.

what Sam said.
essentially what you are doing allows the thumbscrew/DAS BUSHING to move a little bit fore n aft as the tiller bolts are turned in or out.
SAM probably has the dimensions you need to measure for drilling the hole X distance from limb bolt center, for the hole to begin the slot he mentioned.
then you need the DAS thumbscrews, and a set of DAS bushings.
unscrew cap from top of ILF fitting in limbs, careful as spring & pin will go on the floor at threaded cap removal. presss out the ILF fitting body from limb.
then press in a DAS bushing in limb, for the thumbscrew in riser to thread into.
then stick limb in riser and secure thumbscrew to DAS bushing. repeat with other limb.
voila. a DAS setup.
SIMILAR to ILF except bushing and thumbscrew instead of ILF fitting and riser channel.

Steve, my dial calipers are on the fritz, can you measure a DAS plate to the slot for him? I'll look see if I can find a DAS plate to send him? My stuff is scattered or in storage.
