Some of you may know that mshockey had this LH Pearson XE Classic compound riser listed in the classifieds for a Warf project. Well… I kept an eye on it and thought, what the heck, It’ll be a project for winter.

So… I tell him I’ll take it. He finds out we're only 40 miles apart and suggests we meet half way to make the trade. We did and I'm thrilled to have met him. I had a buddy with me and come to find out, he worked with Marc’s brother-in-law. Well… as it turned out, we visited a while and Marc gifted me this riser and I really appreciate that, his contribution to archery and this forum in particular.

I get home, take a few measurements and decided  to make this a bolt-down T/D using ILF limbs and attach them like the Dorado and GameMaster II series of bows. I got out some bits, went the drill press and made pilot hole with a tiny bit. Three bits later I had a ¼” hole ½” deep in pocket on each end. :) Wow… that was easy. Then I took of the cable guard receiver.

I went to my cans and found a ¼” bolt with a long shank, then broke out the hacksaw. I cut two pieces off that bolt, ½” long; tapped them in the holes and now I have the alignment pins. Next I grabbed a set of ILF limbs, pressed out the ILF bushings and installed my homemade Dorado bushings.

I grabbed a couple homemade collar’s, slipped them on the limb bolts, tapped in a 3/8” plastic hole plug in the top and now I’m ready to try this out.

If you can't find tubing to work for the collars for the 5/16" limb bolts, a 2315 arrow shaft will work just fine.

The riser is 23 ½” long so with medium limbs I’ve got a 66 and 1/2" bow. So… at 13% of that length I need to start with about an 8.7” brace height. I strung the thing up, set the starting brace height, checked the tiller and was thrilled to find it 7 3/8” on each end--GREAT!

I put on an NAP Centerest Flipper and shot a few. I'm liking this new toy :) I think she looks nice.

Mind you, I'm planning to use some Bondo in the limb pockets and the cable guard hole on the belly, sand it down and repaint it—sometime. I may update now-and-again—or not, this winter. :)

Yes Marc is super good dude, gave me the long bear mm riser to gift to a father/son here locally.
they loved them. They received 4 risers that day and turned around and gifted one of those 4 to a starting archer, she was thrilled.
contacted Marc about that Pearson to gift, he offered a black bear instead.
now have a lefty that bear bb going to another local lady. Her husband has a Warf and is super excited to start her Warf.
Jim you did a nice job on that Pearson.
glad you got it.

... How does at shoot.
I had a very light set of limbs on it, so It'll be later before I find out, but I'm sure she'll be nice.

With this Pearson Frankinbow and my Black bear Warf now in my stable I'm beginning to understand why/how Steve Long is so enamored with these things. 😊

Hey Jim,
Very happy to have got to meet you in person and looking forward to possibly getting to shoot together sometime in the future.
Looks like the conversion turned out great, keep us posted on your thoughts as you get more familiar with it.

Interesting--maybe. I had a set of 68" 25H 18lb limbs on the riser and it weighed 18.2lb at 28". I just put a set of 66" 25H 34lb limbs on the riser and got 33.8lb. That sure makes it easy for what limbs I want to put on it. They'll weigh within a pound of what they're rated on a 25" riser--good deal.

Hey Steve,

Here's the before and after of my Blackbear WARF riser. It'll be going on my annual pig hunt to Florida on the Jan. 13. I'm hoping to knock off a pig or two with it. It was fine the way it was, but.... well... you know how it is. A guy just has to tinker. :)

Well... my Winter project only lasted 10 days. I was in the Walmart the other day and picked up a pint can of Bondo, came home and thought  okay I'd just as well get on it. Semi-retirement has it benefits. :)

I grabbed a couple tongue depressors, double sided tape, course and fine sandpaper and started in. The riser had several chips in the paint, so I worked all them down. Put the limbs in the pockets, wrapped the depressors with postal tape and use double sided tape to fit on the limbs. Mixed the Bondo and filled the voids. Sanded it all down, cleaned it all with acetone and sprayed it with flat black paint/primer. Took the can of OD Green I used on the Black Bear and oversprayed just a little with it. Once it dried I gave it three coats of poly. Not bad... not bad at all.

I looked in my boxes and found an old Golden Key Futura SuperStar rest. I thought  that's probably close the vintage of the riser. So I put in on, made one of my wrist slings, hung a weight on the front, set the brace height at 8.75", set the nockset at 3/8" and shot the poop out of it. Tiller is even... btw. Shoots real nice. :)
