Making Paracord String Silencers

My current string silencers were looking rather matted up and needed replacing, so I thought I'd try making some new ones using parachord.
I love wool silencers, however I live in the UK and rain loves wool silencers more.

I started by cutting 7 pieces at 2.5in long and removed the white threads inside.

Each 7 piece group weighs around 27gn (54gn for both).

I usually bind silencers which makes installation easier.

I had the idea of pre-fraying the braided cord using a wire brush. I found this nylon brush in the drawer, which to my delight seemed to work well.

After a dozen or so shots, they are starting to puff up nicely.

I have some waterproofing spray which I'll probably treat them with after taping off the string.

I hope you enjoyed this.

Yeah, I kind of eyeballed it to be honest. They can be removed individually, so I may end up taking away a few to see if there is any difference.
I can't say it has made a change in sound, but the previous silencers were 16gn and made of black rubber strands from inside a bungee cord, together with waxed polyester leathercraft thread. It worked well, but the polyester began tangling into a ball after about a year.

They are great, however I have since tried getting them wet with poor results. They soak and hold water like a towel, at least mine did. Try giving them a blast with silicone spray or a waterproofing spray and rubbing it in, that made a huge difference.

I just started using these on my Stalker Wolverine after listening to the old Push podcast episode with TradLab. Was skeptical at first, but they've definitely been the quietest string silencers I've used. Still can't get my head around it.
