If everything goes as planned, starting Friday afternoon I will be in the woods.
Arrows tuned, Brodhead’s sharpened. Hunting duffel bag packed.
GPS programmed, and on the road Thursday morning for a 14 hr road trip.
If anyone is interested will do a semi live blackberry posting of the Hunt.

Oh ya, I looks like it will be cold  cutoffs and flip flops for the hunt are out.

Oh yes, Van, you'd better dress warm! It was 16 degrees this morning!

We are looking forward to the visit/hunt! We are prepping a batch of Wolverine Lodge Jerky tonight...

Watch out for those hotel hot tubs... they may look clean. I know a Pool/Spa specialist that brings his own water test kit to the hotel to make sure the water is balanced.

I work at a fitness center and I take care of two of them, they are very high mainenance (kinda like women).

Enjoy your trip. Dave and I got to shoot with Mike when he was in Chicago last year.

Cold and wet but great fun. Hunted all day from first light to dark. Had a forked horn with 40 yards but no shot due to brush. Saw 10 or so does, however had ether brush in the way or were over my max range.
1- first light
2- shooting light
3-looking along the ridge
4. the river below me

I'll try to add a few pics of my own tomorrow. I don't know hot to upload directly from my iPhone, so it'll be evening time.

It's a privilege to get to spend time with Van. He's very good in the woods and extremely knowledgeable about a whole bunch of stuff. Which means when he speaks, i get to listen and learn!

Conditions here were not ideal today. Game moving slow, rain and wind and cold temperatures alot of the day but Van stuck it out with great cheerfulness. Hopefully we will have snow this morning, later! We are predicted to receive 4" or so (a good bit for central Kentucky)...

Maybe we can upload a picture of Van presiding over kill. Either Van or Liam (my 12 year old apprentice guide on this trip).

And just for the record, it was me that got to shoot with Rick and Dave, not the other way around. Those guys took me under their wing and helped redeem a week of city living when I was stuck in Chicago! I'm STILL grateful!

Thanks guys. Keep 'em coming. I have a friend who is from Kentucky and he returns home to hunt each year. I sighted his new rifle in and he's been keeping me supplied in jerky. Two shots, two deer. I got the better part of that deal......

Van,

Looks just like home sweet home to me! That there is a baby hard wood tangle compared to where I was yesterday! I was just trying to figure out where I could maybe even get a shot if one were to happen to come by. I had to stay though because it looked like stinking hogs had been there rooting for those acorns! there was deer poop everywhere.

Good old Kentucky hardwoods, Jeff! In addition to Van's dozen or so deer, Liam and I saw 16 - all does. Turkey were actively calling but no sightings. This morning Van is monitoring traffic at a major intersection. All of the bucks that my boys and I've killed on this farm in 15 years except 3 were killed within 50 yards of Van.

So we shall see. Hope springs eternal!

We left my house in driving snow and went a dozen miles to hunt. No snow here yet, but it's a comin!
