Bare Bow Setup

I'm interested in setting up for Bare Bow competition. As far as what I've found, a 25" riser and medium or long limbs, seem to be the standard. Medium limbs would make a 68" bow length, while long limbs would make a 70" bow length.

Looking at risers, something in the $200 to $400 price range should get me in the ball park. While about the same price range will work for a set of limbs too.
There are several Hoyt, Gillo and WNS risers that appear to work for this setup.
Similarly, Hoyt, Nika N3, Gillo and WNS have the Carbon limbs with a foam core that interests me too. Somewhere around the 36# draw weight is where I'll purchase the limbs.

I already have a flipper rest with a cushion plunger. So, I'll need is a decent string and possibly add some balance weights as I go.

I've been shooting 3D for many years with a 19" Satori riser and short Uukha Gobi limbs, at 45#, off of a rug rest and it has been very enjoyable. This year, I'm looking to step up my game with the 3D competitions. (y)

Anything you can add or suggest is appreciated. :)

Spend your money on the riser. Look for the highest quality used one you can find.

What's your draw length?

Any 25 inch riser is going to be fine. You will find that switching to Barebow requires a fair level of commitment. I have a bow set up for Barebow Recurve at ASA shoots, but I don't don't shoot them often. Have just been using fast arrow with a 25 yard fixed crawl, because I am so used to shooting a gap at this point. You will have plenty of WTF moments string walking a 3d course, it isn't the instant advantage some try to make it out to be. Requires a true walkback tune and a very strict shot process. Grabbing a handfull of arrows and saying "it looks alright at 20" isn't going to cut it.

I called Lancaster Archery and talked to one of their support techs and watched several videos from Jake Kaminski. The videos from Jake were more help than anything else. That guy really knows how to pick stuff apart. (y) I've not placed an order yet, but I'm favoring the WNS Elnath FX 25" riser, which is $290. WNS Motive C5 carbon/foam limbs at 36# in a medium length, are $270. So, with a decent string it should all come up to $500ish plus. :) Not bad for a starter setup.

Unless, I run across more or better information, this is the setup that I'll purchase and start shooting, in the next month or so. As of now, the weather isn't the best, so I'm in no itchin' hurry to do any shooting. :sneaky:

That's where I'm at. I have shot traditional for decades and was wanting to get into Barebow but I don't wanna work that hard to be honest. I have a couple of wharfed risers that I'm going to buy a set of limbs for and put a springy rest on and just shoot traditional at ASA matches here in Oklahoma and the local stuff. Here in Oklahoma ASA rules for traditional class
Oklahoma ASA will recognize one traditional class – Traditional 25
