A boy's dream

Way back in early 1968 two young boys sat in a tent one night looking at a Bear archery catalog by flashlight. One of those boys was just taken with the Bear Kodiak magnum on those pages. He was already an archer and had a Ben Pearson Jet solid fiberglass bow but oh how he wanted that Kodiak magnum. The trouble was it cost fifty dollars and there was no way he would ever afford such a sum. No matter how much work he offered to do in the family orange grove swayed his parents that thought the bow was just a passing boy hood thing that would pass. To make a long story short. His grandmother thought different and saw him out shooting every waking minute of almost every day and knew it was something he would do for a lifetime. On his birthday, today back in 1968 she called him nextdoor after school and handed him a to him long box from West Hills sporting goods. Inside that box was the bow of his dreams, a Bear Kodiak magnum. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. "Remember me when you are shooting that bow in the future" she said. I assured her I always would. It took a ember for the sport of archery and turned it into a flame that has not diminnished one bit today in 2025. It took him all across the country as a hunter and later a tournament archer and led him to a lot of good things in his life. Today that bow is still with him though to heavy for him to shoot today so he over the years owned other K.Mags of appropriate weight. He still shoots one today as his go to hunting bow and has taken a fair share of game with them. He owns a lot of other bows but the K.Mag is still special to him as is the woman who saw what he would become in the future. That boy was me and I wanted to just say thank you grandma again, it is not often that a gift changes someones life like yours did, know to that I have never forgotten and now I am going out to practice and it will of course be with a K.Mag. and as always I will remember you with every arrow I ever shoot.
