I just made the German spruce woodies i'm shooting. I'm going to hunt with stone points this year. I have my points made and the point weight is matched within 3 grains of my 125gr tips on these arrows. I am practicing at 18 yds here which will be my max hunting yardage. Stone point accuracy...

Anyone know of a coating for a raw wood shaft that will resist the scorching? I always get this grungy target residue that fuses into the lacquer.

I purchased this to build better woodies as wait times and cost of quality wood arrows are going up. It is a spine tester checks arrow straightness, broadhead run off and will spine index nocks. I needed something that would allow me to sort by spine and figured what the heck this thing does it...

Hi all Have been getting into practicing shooting spots with my wooden arrows NFAA 300 rounds. I've noticed my scores are not as good as carbons (217 vs 230 PB). It's great fun and gives me some focus to jut shooting randomly in my yard. Is this normal and what are people's experience?

These were actually my 1st 3 shots of the day...I didn't want to move OR permanently glue/set anything until I at least tried this and as a result?...had a comedy of errors when I got too the 3rd shot. I either need to get my string reserved to a thicker diameter or get some super glue on my...

Got a dozen wooden arrows from jer, Paul Jalon (good man) Of Elite made them up. Got a Internature Viper longbow at 52# not getting much use thanks to the smooth low poundage ILF. Put the two together and I'm having a great time. Heavy 610gr arrows, a bit too much bow for more than 60 shots...

These are the wooden arrows I got from Jer. They are 70-71# spine and shot from my 52# longbow. Beautiful arrows, from 595-610gr for the dozen. Not tuned yet and coming out around 160fps. The pause at the start is not me burning a hole but waiting for a dog to move! Thank you Jer, you're one...

I have suspected for the past few years that my wood arrows were too stiff. From the time I took up the longbow my arrows have flown to the stiff side, unless I really executed my best form. My main longbow (until I get my new Falco) is a 30 pound Samick SLB pulling 40 at my draw. My first...

Just wanted to get out and fling a few just to see how the bare shafts shot with the fletched...but this is me shooting instinctively at 12yds (so my shots are faster and sloppier...I guess)...with a head cold and didn't even bother searching for my tab...wanted to use my glove and see what...

Gentlefolk...as I move forward with my 11/32ndths Doug Fir heavy arrows for my 32# Falco...weighing, sorting and culling?...I was still in amazement at how much better these 560gr Doug Fir shafts w/ 160gr points (for 17.5GPP) flew and grouped as compared to my far lighter 390gr 5/16ths Cedars...

That's right. just turned some hardwood shafts 9/32 with spines up to 55#...very straight as well. Going to do some testing. Has anyone ever tried 9/32 arrows? Kevin

I have some 9/32 wood shafts. They are spined at 50# and weigh 450 grains. Has anybody heard of that or tried that? Kevin

Hey folks, just wanted to throw up a few pictures of the second batch of arrows I've made. I think they came out pretty slick. I didn't have a cresting jig so I used painters tape, worked out fairly well. The pictures don't do the stain justice, I used a light rose wood, looks pretty sweet in...

Don't know if I mentioned here or not but Last weekend I shot some self arrows into granite and cement blocks at 12 tards. I smashed the granite bit the arrows just bounced off the cement. Upon closer inspection, I had NO arrow damage...for real. I'm trying to get my daughter to video it again...

So last weekend I shot some of my self arrows into granite and cement blocks at 12 yards with my 60# longbow. (I used 5/16 shafts and 11/32 shafts). I shattered the granite but the cement stayed put. I had NO arrow damage. I'll see if I can dp it with a video soon. Also I'll try and get some...

Take a look at the June/July issue of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. In it Dennis Kamstra, a traditional hunting guide in South Africa, mentions his experience with some new wood hunting shafts being offered. This can be seen online now as well. Kevin

I am Zsolt from Hungary, an "old" reader of the TT. I would like to ask for advice: I have a Border Harrier Royale longbow, amo 28"@40#, my drawlenght is amo 29,75". My draw weight is on my finger about 44#. I looking for woodies for this bow. What would be the recommended spine for a 30" long...

Hi I have been setting up my new ILF Black Douglas, 45lb @28 and a brace height of 71/2inch. I shoot wooden arrows and currently have a set of Sitka Spruce 11/32 55-60Lb rear tapered to 5/16 which should give me a dynamic spine of around 62lb. I have a Shibuya button and rest. After setting up I...
