A new too me BB rig followed by a family Christmas vacation saw my Covert Hunter hanging on the hooks for a few weeks but tonight?...I didn't feel like tinkering with the BB rig so down came the CH. Weeks ago I had conjured up a very heavy arrow configuration to accommodate both a 6 pack of...

Hi all, something that has been on my mind a lot lately as I try to put the work in to improve my archery: I have only been shooting for about a year, and am making pretty good progress. Originally my goal was to get good enough for hunting, which hasn't really happened yet other than...

I have a ~50# bow. Its what I mostly shoot. I can hold at draw for 20-25 seconds. And my main goal is to improve with this bow. I have improved a great deal with it over the last 4 months but Im still not what would be considered good. I intend to keep shooting this bow the most for the...

Hi everybody. With my target bow I shoot carbon arrows with 60 grains field tips. I added some top hat arrow stoppers to the end when shooting outside. I have lost too many arrows under the grass. I fount that flight wasn't really impaired, but the arrows ended up lower. I had to aim high. This...

I recently bought a few dozen GT Warrior 500 shafts and trimmed them to 29.5". I'm quite familiar with these shafts as I have used the GT Expedition 500 shafts for years now and I know how they will tune. While experimenting with them, I made up a few with the regular insert and a few with the...

Would, everything else being equal, a 3 pound recurred be faster than a lighter, say 2 pound recurve? Would more of the energy be transferred to the arrow?

After years of reading, and being told by almost everyone, that my arrows were too stiff, I have decided to try some softer ones. My current bow is a 1968 or 1969 Wing Archery "Swift Wing", 38 lb at 28 inches, 66 inches long. My current draw length is about 28 inches. My current arrow is a...

Today I was tuning a bow that has been waiting on the shelf for weeks, its an older Hoyt and I fletched some Platinums for it because I felt aluminums would be a good match for an almost vintage kind of bow. During a break I took the arrows and let them fly with my current stringwalking rig...

First post here. I'm no stranger to trad but still a relative newcomer to ILF. I've sold all of my prized Morrison Shawnees and Cheyennes since falling in love with my 13" Gen3 Metal riser. A wrist injury forced me to transition from a lower wrist grip to a higher one and the Hoyt ortho grip has...

Hello! I shoot a 50# Dalaa @ 27.5. Currently I shoot 29.5" Trad Only 500's w/ 3X5 and 125gr on the head. In my opinion, too light for hunting. They shoot well and fast, and I am shopping for a new arrow set up. Will this work in your opinion: GT 55/75 @ 29.5 w/ 150gr up front and 3X5 on the...

I have been playing around with gap shooting and generally shoot 50lb to 60lb longbows or recurves. I ordered some lighter limbs for more form work, etc. (Please, not a discussion of that you can a lighter poundage will do for hunting, as their are some big pigs here and maybe eventually a...

Is a heavier riser a more accurate riser? The reason why I'm asking is that I'm still shooting a 21" hoyt excel... and I'm shooting a 290 average out of 300 on a 30 target 3D round and have put in alot of work in tuning and shot sequence to get there. HOWEVER would a heavier riser produce...

So might be overthinking it, but looking for limbs to get to my goal weight of 42lbs on my 21" hoyt excel. My question is, is it better to get limbs rated for 17inch riser that are heavier probably 50lb limbs and shoot them lighter at 42ish or get limbs rated for 25 inch riser and shoot 30ish...

I just bought a PSE Optima to fix and resell. When I did a search on this bow there was caution about install heavier limbs. The riser is 20" and looks like a lot of other aluminum riser. Maybe it is a fear of twisting the limb platform?
