A post by Mr Roboto made me think about this. Why do men and women have separate classes in many competitions?

I'm new to this site and am considering getting into competitive shooting. My interests lie in more of the "traditional" aspects of archery meaning sticking with a hunting type of R/D longbow, recurve, or D shape longbow, no stabilizers, plunger rests, etc. Is there a class for such? If so...

I've been trying to google the different bow organisations and the different class divisions they have but seem to be going in a circle following all the links. Does anyone have the links on hand? While it is unlikely I would ever compete competitively, you never know. Many thanks.

I've been thinking about this for a while, still not sure how to proceed. In our area leagues, all non-compound shooters are generally lumped into one class, 'Traditional.' This means that a guy shooting a self bow and a guy shooting a modern barebow or field archery rig are standing at the...

I know this is a much kicked around old chestnut but a few recent threads have brought out opinions on it so I thought I'd see where everyone stands. Federations seem to go out of their way to over complicate archery and it does seem like some rules get brought in to penalize winners and...

Here's an honest question and opinion, though possibly divisive. Since this board has a tradition of discussing such things civilly, I think we can raise the issue here. Do you think the bowhunter-style classes make sense alongside the longbow and barebow classes? I don't. To my mind, they...

:( I was just reading that the max distance for the ibo longbow division is 25 yards why???? RU class is 30 what is up with these distances??? I much prefer nfaa and there 40+ yard set-ups I mean why limit the shots so much?? I just don't see it? I for one don't see 3-d archery as hunting...

What are the "trad" classes in your area? We have had recurve, longbow, and primitive. But should we have a Modern Traditional class? This class would be for DAS, Warf, Gamemaster and other metal riser bows with arrow rest and/or plungers? Sort of roughly use NAA barebow rules, no stabs, string...

I wonder what a class a IFAA barebow recurve shooter (string walker) would shot in the NFAA Sectional? As I understand it the NFAA Barebow Class is a compound class, right? Can a recurve shooter shoot in a compound class. Could I shoot in "freestyle limited recruve class" string walking. I...

I'm a little comfused. On the NFAA website, the "traditional class" for field archery is defined as the following: Traditional: This style of shooting is for those who wish to compete with the Recurve or Longbow. No device of any kind, including arrow rest, that can be used for sighting...

Which classes can I shoot with a stabalizer less than 10" and using a flipper, plunger and the srf sight? I figured bowhunter fingers, and ru if I take the srf off are there any other classes that I can qualify for and which would be the best to try I am seriously considering doing it either...

As I understand it, the NFAA traditional class allows elevated rests and plungers, but not stabilizers or counterbalances. Do the optional weight kits on risers like the DAS and Best Moon count as counterbalances? Does anyone know anything about the traditional class going to off the shelf only?

What do you guys think of having only 2 Traditional Classifications for archery tournaments...a Hunter's Class and a Target Class. Hunter Class - targets will only range within what is typically considered ethical hunting distances...say 0 to 25yrds with an average shot distance of 17.5yrds...
