Default Dalaa grip question/problem

First the problem....I've got a big knot on the base of my thumb-knuckle and after just a handful of shots with the Dalaa riser it hurts to the point where I have to stop shooting or try to grip the bow differently. In comparing the Dalaa riser to my Bob Lee, the Dalaa grip comes to a sharper "edge" at the contact point and the Lee is more rounded.

In examing the grip on the Dalaa there is not much wood in that area of the grip to grind away before you get into the actual riser itself.

My question is for you fellows that have tried the Poly Grip. Is it hard or soft plastic?

Mike,
The poly is both hard and soft. A hard base with a contact patch of soft poly. Send me your address and I will get a universal one out for you to try!

Later
John

Mike: The poly grips are really sweet. Wish I could figure out a way to mount one on my 21st Edge. TM

As I recall there are 3 different grips available for the DAS, and I assume they'd work fine with the Dalaa. There's also the possibility of making your own. The riser is flat and any "fitting" would be primarily exterior. Getting it onto the riser has got to be pretty easy...just another "possibility".

I just bought a standard Hoyt grip on clearance to try. The holes were off by a smidge, but in a few minutes I had them fitted to my DAS Master. Just another possibility and sometimes cheaper too.

Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned that the knot on my thumb-knuckle is permanent most likely due to me breaking my thumb twice playing HS football. I'm going to take John up on his offer to try out the poly grip before I give up on the bow.

Mike,

Hoyt Avalon grips are a drop-in fit to DAS risers. Just another option.

In addition there are a few custom grip makers that could work with hand measurements to make a custom grip. I'm sure the guy who makes the Jaeger Grips could probably do a custom setup of some sort

there also used to be an outfit that would send you a can of epoxy putty that you'd mix and goop on your grip then put on a rubber glove and grip it then let it set up. It was real hard stuff and it gave you a strictly one-way grip that fit like a glove with no latitude.

This is just a little off topic maybe, but it still may be helpful.

It's funny, but for many years I was hyper grip design conscious. However, early last year, I figured out that [how I gripped the bow] was much more important than what the grip shape was.

I stumbled on to a gripping technique while surfing archery sites. Once I adapted my grip, grip shape became almost a non-factor. (see below)

Hope it helps you as much as it helped me.

You point your thumb at the target, tuck the pinky and ring finger into the palm, letting the first and second fingers lay lightly against the grip. (see SUSF site for more pics and detailed info) http://archery.eusu.ed.ac.uk/resourc...hing_guide.htm

I had been giving David a hard time about his grip, but in hindsight, I think it was me more than it was the grip. I even think he sort of indicated that to me, but I wasn't wise enough to catch it at the time. Still had some ego to get through...lol! Now I can pick up any bow/any grip and shoot it very comfortably and without torqueing it. Grip shape has become almost a non-issue.
