Went to the VA hospital 5 days ago and was diagnosed with olecrunon bursitis. At the present time it's not real painful because I'm not doing anything with it. But it is swollen up to where the elbow almost looks deformed.

Not worried right now about the swelling or looks of it, but am concerned about the use of my bow arm (left elbow) and if this is going to be a continuing problem..Doc says wait and find out..2 more weeks with no shooting and a new bow to arrive any day.Woe is me!!

Has anyone else had this problem, still have it, any suggestions to keep it from flaring up again. I don't mind arthritis, but this is the 1st time anything like bursitis has hit and it is worrying me about my shooting.

I'm not young and have already dropped to 4o# bows, and really don't want to go lighter..could use some suggestions!!!!!

rwsbow,

Sorry to hear about your ailment.

Sports medicine and treatments may help. I am sure your Dr. has discussed this with you. Shooting your bow may increase the inflamation even at lighter poundage. I have never experianced anything other than tennis elbow but for joint problems glucosimine may help. It helps lubricate the joints.

Another site to check for your condition would Healthboards.com. There are many who have different conditions that are disscussed there. Some may have had experianced the same problem.

Thanks Tuffshot,
Will go through them and see if anything helps. Just don't wanna give it up yet..Gotta be a way somehow (even if its surgery) to keep shooting..at my age, that's about all that's left!!LOL (not that old, just 52!!

Only 52 is a better way of putting it.:)
I turned 52 years young in April myself and several others here on the site are in that neighborhood.

There is a wealth of info out there it is just a little difficult to determine fact from fiction..:)

I've had bouts with elbow bursitis a off and on. I saw an orthopedic doc several times and he finally figured out that resting my elbow on a hard desk several hours a day was causing it. I now try to not rest my elbow on anything and when I do I use a pad.

Mine was in my bow arm and when it flared up it was very painful to do anything.

rwsbow,

Hope it clears up soon.
Is it due to your shooting?
I've had pretty good luck in the past with acupunture for both shoulder and elbow tendonitis. Granted it's not exactly bursitis, but it may be worth a look.
