Just got drawn for an Illinois tag (May 5-12). Foliage will be out full by then.
Now I need to find some big, bad-a$$ 3-bladers to really whack 'em with. :D
It really pains me that I have to purchase a tag for more than one season to get some good time in. When I lived in Iowa, bow season was during ALL gun seasons (1st thru 5th). Now that was a good time... hunting early, mid, and late seasons.
So who else is gonna try and whack a turkey this spring?

btw BowC - back in the late 80's those Show-Me state boys were trading wild-trapped birds with Iowa.... turkeys for pheasants. They have more of them black, glossy, basketball-sized, snowball-headed birds than they know what to do with. ;)
You know why they're so stupid in the spring don't ya? After all that gobbling, the blood flow to their pea-sized brain is so restricted that the only motor functions they're capable of is dragging their wings, puffing their feathers, and spreading their tail. :D

I'd like to see you try to do that, Piney!!! :p

Guess I forgot one other thing they can do... and that would be to try and copulate with every hen in sight after all that fussin' around.
Now don't even say it.... :p

I've got one of those that is basically a piece of camo cloth with about 4 plastic stakes. I used it last year in hopes that if I had to shift my lower body around it would hide some of the movement. I just can't sit perfectly still for long periods of time---bottom line I didn't get a turkey though. :sbrug:

I think I am going to hunt them this year. I haven't hunted turkeys for 8 years and then it was with a shotgun.
I am a good caller with a diaphram. My oldest boy(14)wants me to call for him this spring, he'll use a shotgun.
Think I will go with the warf bow and Snuffers. Gonna set up the decoys so that they challenge the jake and turn their back to me.
It will extend the hunting season one more month while I warm up to the idea of fishing.

Here in GA the season starts the 26th and runs two months with 3 gobblers allowed. 30 years ago there were about 17,000 birds now there are 350,000. We have lots of public land, and if you work a schedule the allows midweek hunting you can have lots of it to yourself after the weekend crowds. I'm going to try it with a short bow and old Bear razorheads with the bleeders in. If that don't fix em I'm to blame. I'll let you know if my positive attitude pays off.

when (& if) i kill one w/my 10 gauge, i'm going to try w/a bow. putting out my dekes & setting up in a cedar tree sounds as close to "deer hunting" for turkeys as i can get. getting too old & feeble to chase those irritating things up & down the ridges any more.... :shooting: ps2
