I am interested in building a take down riser using laminations of persimmon and black walnut, with perhaps a single thin lamination of something lighter (hickory) as an accent. I am curious if anyone has tried this combination? Any genearl tips, or suggestions? Especially regards the limb bolt assy and locator pin hole? Will regular wood glue do the job, Urac, etc...? Is pressure clamping req'd? Any thoughts/input would be appreciated!

Wesome...haven't checked in here in a while..
Urac is fine...gotta clamp it tight! Binghams sells the limb bolt hardware..you have to have a jig to run your drill in or a drill press to get everything square and centered!
If you have anymore questions....shoot.

I use Smooth-on. Never tried Urac but am sure it will work also. It is good that you are laminating. The walnut would not be strong enough by itsself. As far as the persimon never used it but should work with glue joints. I cut everything a little bigger than the final dememsion before glue up so there is plenty to get things square. Be sure to ruff up your glue surfaces with a hacksaw blade or course grit paper 40 grit or more. I clamp the pieces together with big C-clamps as tight as I can get them. The smooth-on will need to go in the hot box for about 4 hours. Dont know about the Urac. Good luck:2cents:

I use Smooth On also, I skip the heat box and let it set for 48 hours at least. course I make risers 3 or 4 at a time.
So by the time I get to them they are as much as a yr old. and never had one delam on me from the oven when making a bow.
Once it's hard your doing well. once it cured it like a granite rock !!
