I sent Bob "Warf" Gordon a Black Bear Riser last week and had to wait several days to get it back! [I cannot understand waiting a year or more for a custom bow!]
Anyway, Bob sent it back before I even had time to realize it was gone and it is a work of art! He matched the factory paint so closely that you cannot tell that this riser used to have an identity crisis before Bob Warfed it into it's true self.
I hold the riser in front of me and open my hand and it sits there, dead straight, balancing on the web between finger and thumb, waiting for some carbon limbs.
I am ordering some KAP Challengers in the mid length from Robert (46lbs) and will hopefully have this thing up and running in the next few weeks. I posted my pictures of my first Warf on the "Wall" classifieds and it was immediately snapped up by a fellow who had never heard of a Warf but immediately grasped the concept as making alot of sense.
I invited him over here to meet Warf and learn more about these marvelous bows and I hope he shows up before long.
I'm grateful to Bob for his quick and expert artistry on my riser, to Robert for hosting the best site around and working tirelessly to make 'stuff' available to us at excellent prices, and to all who have otherwise aided my education.
It's hard to believe that less than a year ago someone said, "Wonder how long before he gets Warfed?"
And I said, "What's Warfed???" :)
Mike
BTW, I'll get some pics added to the family album when I get her setup.
Lucky dog............I'm still trying to find somewhere that has the KAP carbons that arent backordered. I have my riser ready to send to Bob but was waiting to send the limbs as well. Maybe I should go ahead and send it....???
Bob and I visited a little while back, and I can tell you that guy has some real talent! Ingenius comes to mind too. He just uses simple tools and techniques, but the results he produces are amazing. He does it all in a little basement area that isn't as big as some people's bathroom. It was a blast to share notes about how we do things. Bob's warfers are without a doubt the best value in the archery world, and you couldn't deal with a better guy!

Bob, does great work indeed. I got my Black Bear Warf riser in the mail yesterday and it looks great. I had picked up a riser off of ebay for conversion, but then I picked up an already converted bear riser from Wally Holmes. My limbs are on order from Robert (KAP carbons, short length) and as soon as they come in, I'll be good to go. Now that I have the riser, the wait on those limbs is killing me. I purchased a brand new target yesterday and it's just itching to be shot.

TB4U did a "Black Bear" with KAP Challenger Carbon Short limbs for me.
It comes out to 50# at my draw of about 27.5" Just what I had hoped for.
I love it. I got my limbs from PapaBull, it took about 6 weeks or so. I think that is just a fact of life now for new ones.

Dalebow,
Welcome to tradtalk! It's good to see you over here. I may have my Warf bow fitted up and with me at the July 30 KTBA shoot, along with the redbow and my Mckean (that's pretty much the whole shootin match). You can shoot em all.

OK can you explain what the warf bow is, I gather a compound riser with limbs made for it in recurve fashion. How would I get a riser or who would I get it from and to whom would I send it to get "converted" ??? Then who do I order these carbon limbs from and what are options other than length??
Do you shoot off the shelf or rised with vanes or feathers. SOunds cool :thankyou:

Dalebow: There are a number of handles that can be "Warfed" easily. Bob Gordon, who goes by the handle "Warf" is the fellow responsible for the phenom. You can send him a private message and he can fill you in on the questions you have about handles and he is the fellow who most commonly converts the risers. The risers essentially take an Olympic (aka ILF or FITA) target limb. They come in three lengths and two pound increments up to 50#. Since the risers they are mounted on are shorter than the target risers the weight can be increased somewhat. The ILF limbs have a peculiar attachment system at the handle so Bob had developed a way to retrofit the limbs. They can be shot off the shelf or with an elevated rest.

Dale, do a search on WARF... you will find many pictures, reviews, and discussions about these bows... lots of interesting reading. The most common older compound bows to look for a riser would be the Bear Black Bear, Jennings Black Lightning, Proline Typhoon, Hoyt Rambo, and quite a few others I'm not familiar with.

Oh, one other thing... they ARE fast, if you shoot a sub-9 gr/lb arrow. Anything heavier than that and the speeds are equivalent to most other recurves. The big advantage is that they CAN shoot a 7-9 gr/lb arrow accurately without all the fussy-ness that most recurves have when getting down that low in gr/lb.

Dale, be sure to check the "trading blanket" on the site here there are usually a few Warf-bows available. the Warfmeister himself can usually provide one on fairly short notice
a word of warning: WARF-ing (think--Winning Accuracy---Radical Fun) IS ADDICTIVE as any number of guys on this site can testify.

Hey guys thanks so much for the answers, encouragement, and tips. I emailed back and forth with Bob and he is a nice guy and has black bears in stock and told me how to order limbs and such. Sounds like fun and the perfect deer, turkey machine. I might even get crazy and have it dipped in a cool camo pattern or wood grain.
:thankyou:

Hey Dale,
The black bear makes for a good riser, you should be real happy with it.

Dale,
I'm sorry I missed several of your posts here. I was in fact on vacation. :) It was good to meet you today. If my limbs were not back-ordered I'd have given you a go with my Warf. For me, so far it has been the Warf in hybrid bows, and Marc Lauver in Warf-like wood bows!
I look forward to shooting with you sometime.
Mike
