Here's the first bow I've been able to get this far on without breaking but it turned out just like supertiller predicted. This is a bow for 1 of my grandsons. It's an all wood 48", ipe belly, actionboo center, and 1/4 sawn white oak back. All three lams are tapered. I lost my saved supertiller design for this because of a computer crash but have a copy at work so will post pics later.
Braced and tiller pics.

That looks like a nice design.

BTW, I spent a summer or two in rio rancho (shooting sagebrush with my bow) visiting my grandma. My parents own a couple of desert lots out that way.

I love to come up over the top of the "hill" in the night and see Albuquerque sprawled out on the desert floor.

My grandpa pastored a church in Jemez before he died.

Hey I work as an appraiser for the county here and I can tell you land here is selling like crazy. There's a couple of companies from out of state that are offering people a few thousand for their lots and then turn around and make a killing on them. Example, one women from out of state asked what was going on here cause she had offers of $10,000 to $20,000 for her two 1/2 acre lots. I found out where they were and let her know that 1 block away lots were selling for $140,000 per 1/2 acre. If you can get me the legal discription I'll check them out for you.

I'll send you a pm. I love your part of the country. My parents just received an offer from some outfit - but they wanted to hold the land - they'd love to build out there some day. Don't know if they will but I would greatly appreciate an informed idea about the lots they have.

I spent many happy visits out there, exploring the Sandia Crest, wandering Old Town, and visiting the pueblos. I wear a ring I picked up in old town to remember my times out there. Also just roaming the desert across from my grandparents home - watching my grandmother handfeed a road runner on her back patio, and the sunsets - incredible!

Anyway - I don't mean to sidetrack your thread about an excellent bow design. I'll send a pm. And thanks!

Mike

Here's the comparison of SuperTiller and the actual bow.

nice looking bow. does that program tell you the amount of thickness taper and width the limbs need to be in order to keep all parts of the limbs equally stressed ? Any plans for a full sized version ?

DRT the program lets you enter different thickness tapers, and width tapers and then calculates the limb curves. It gives you graphs like those I posted with this project. It also calculates the stress at each plotted point on the limb. It calculates the draw weight and stored energy. It really gives you some insight into what could work the best or least.
