What type of camo do you guys normally use? I use Hardwoods green early season here and then will switch to my Predator gray and brown. What about you guys?

I really like ASAT. I like the biege/brown/black. its a very light pattern, and Ive never seen a season that didnt have a light pattern somewhere. Ground, Tree trunk, leaf litter etc.

ASAT leafy suit best camo for any situation that I have found. I also like predator, but if you just want one camo that can go and work any where check out ASAT I like the fact that you can wear what ever you want under neath to fit any temperature.

best thing since sliced bread for me was investing in cabela's lightweight ghille extreme jacket with the boonie hat hood.......it's not heavey like some ghille suits and more effective than leafy wear type jackets.......it's really an awesome effective hunting tool..........i wear a spandoflage face mask or i have a leafy wear face mask hood that i remade with more twine, leaf work and ear coverings.........i find that if i spray the mask down with permethrin [buy the concentrate and mix your own]......let it dry......i have no problems with flys/ticks/mosquitos etc.........as i mentioned on an early post regarding armguards........i use a spandoflage gun cover [the barrel part] as an arm guard ober the bow arm part of the ghille jacket and everything stays out of the way..........one needs to do a little trimming in selected chest areas for string clearance .......but wearing this jacket will turn you into an awesome predator if you have any hunting skills ........and learn to move with the wind.........in a tree ........you simple are not scene as anything but natural......i always wear hip boots deer hunting and have found that they simple become tree trunks......... besides absolute scent control......a plus with the hip boots......a recurve limb will rest with ease just inside the top of the boot........you can hold your bow this way for hours and even stalk with slow movements with bow at ready resting in the top of the boot................

I have a little of all of it. Most of my hunting is from the treestand so to me as long as it doesn't make me a blob I have had success with everything including my alltime favorite a solid green woolrich light sweater.

I use a Ghille jacket in the corn and whatever in the air. i have killed deer wearing my white uniform from work. I would hunt in my BVD's if thats all I had.

Elkdreamer,

I sent you a PM. How hot is that Cabelas ghillie? Do you need the pants?

It is usually real warm down here for the first 8 to 10 weeks. What temp would it have to be to use that thing?

Thanks
Cato

heeyyyyy cato......answered your pm......but thought that i might go ahead and post some of what i said to add to this thread.......i do use mine in hot weather........in warm weather i wear a fishnet long sleeve undershirt polypro and an under armour long sleeve loosegear over that.......evaporation of sweat with this setup is almost like a personal air conditioner......i wear hip boots.....so no ghillie pants needed.......actually with the slow movement one should use on the ground and staying in the shadows.....i think one could easily get buy without the ghillie pants......but a ghillie face mask is a needed and that will be the biggest problem with heat........glasses with me being a necessity.....are a real pain because of fogging........also for the thread.......here is the link to some awesome light weight ghillies.....................<http://www.bushrag.com/>.......elkdreamer

Blue jeans and Red/Black Plaid :highfive: is my preference!

However, :2cents: I like the Advantage Timber best.

I ordered a gullie suit from cabela,s in a X large and it was way to big. They were out of large so I ordered a leafy wear suit and that works very well.I,ve also had good luck later in the season with predator fall gray. With a little snow on the ground you pretty much disapear as soon as ya stop moveing

A note on Ghillie use.........NEVER lite a cig. or smoke in one.....I know this seems obvious but two snipers were burned to death recently from this very thing.....Even the flame retardant material goes up like so much dry grass.....

ASAT is without a doubt the best camo you can get. Predator is a close second.I am referring to patterns. I have to agree that the ASAT leafy [3D Vanish Suit(I belive is what they call it)] is the best of the best. Now that being said Ghillie suits are or can be a bit too bulking(not neccessarily heavy) to be practical for bowhunting. Also they are most effective in a prone position. While I can shoot a longbow in a prone position I wouldn't really want to do it in a hunting scenario. I would think a blind made from the ASAT Vanish 3D that concealed you movement would be ideal and then it wouldn't matter too much you were wearing. All that being said I don't think camo is absolutely essential. :2cents: :thankyou:

You will never understand how effective a ghillie suit can be until you try one.

My Camo is some inexpensive leafy wear that I bought on ebay and a set of leafy bug suit that I bought at Walmart. Here's a photo of me and my grand daughter wearing it out in the woods:

Bill I am well aware of how effective ghillie suits are after using them in the Marine Corps. If men who are intently looking for you can't see you at 5 feet your camo is good. I was only saying that they MIGHT and only might be too bulky for bowhunting. I have been told by someone that uses one that he trims the inside of his bow arm sleeve and the string clears it, so :mistake: my bad.

:bow2: :jesus: :amen:

The ghillie suits do have their idiosynracies but once you trim them so you can shoot ok they are, to me, like wearing a portable blind. You still need to be seated comfortably and not move. Movement will give you away no matter what your are wearing.
