View Full Version : The 36# DESTROYER!!

I pulled a G. Fred tonight.... but without the heavy poundage thing, lol. I had my 40# Stallion with me for an evening hunt. Buck came in 5 minutes before quitttin' time. He was straight-on at 12 yards, then turned to my left and got by my first window, so I had to shift over to shoot the second window to my left. He nearly got out of that window too, but with a quick point 'n shoot canted snap shot, the arrow got there just before he was gone. Must've drawn a full 36# @ 26", lol....

The 425 gr. 2014 Easton X7 went thump right behind the shoulder and stopped at the off-side leg. Deer ran about 50 yards and flipped over in the weeds. I used a Muzzy Phantom less the bleeder blade (100 gr).... just because. Destroyed the lungs with neary a drop of blood on the ground. Same tree, same shot, same result as the Pope deer I took in 2001.

What a night! The Cards win game #3, hurray!!

Small buck, I ain't picky... only thing I was thinkin' about was back straps!

Outstanding bro!!!! Good shooting.
Maybe G.Fred knows something about bowhunting after all!

Congrats, man.

smaller racked deer maybe, but pretty good body size. Good shootin'. I am going to get out and try my luck Friday-Wed. I have been workin, and I was sick my last few days off at work so I have not been able to get anything yet. Not because I haven't shot though!

Good shooting Piney and no surprise results for me!:highfive:
After I saw the damage that was done on the doe I shot last year when I had to short draw my bow, weight does not factor in for me and my hunting anymore. What is in the bow hand matters a lot less than the hand holding the string. :)

Nice work Piney. It leaves me wanting to do some math! I have some boys who want to hunt trad. and I always wonder (legal considerations aside) how low can we go?

Beautiful animal - nice story.

Nice going Pinelander! That is a nice fat buck. Down in Illinois even your small racked deer have good sized bodies. He looks like the first deer I shot last season. I am still looking for my first shot of the season. Had a couple within range, but no cigar.

How many points did he have? Looks like a six point.

Like you I practice the FMB deer management progam (FMB= Fill My Belly). I can't take credit for that...I got it from another website....but venison in the freezer is always my goal. Big bucks, or any big deer, for that matter, is just frosting on an already very good cake.:)

You better be damned glad no one told that buck that light draw weight bows with light arrows don't have enough penetration. If that deer had been aware of this popular wisdom, your arrow would have bounced right off it and you'd be all bummed out.

Of couse, none of the deer I've shot with 400 to 450 grain arrows knew that those arrows don't work, either. Mine obliged and promplty dropped dead, too.

Congratulations, Piney. I can smell those backstraps on the grill now! :)

Pinely,

That is a big bodied deer. Should be good eating.

I have only been out about three times. Nothing to shoot at.

Well done,

Way to go Dave!!!!!!!
That's a fine lookin buck, and will sure nuff make for some good eatin.
It don't surprise me either with the low poundage of weight it took to kill that buck. I spined one several years ago, and got down to finnish him off. From a couple of yards, i only pulled the arrow back half way from the hip... it penetrated both lungs easily.

Hey, did you get all the blood off the quad?

:youdaman: Oh yea..... I'm pullin for the Tigers too.

Thanks to all for sharing in my excitement. An excitement that was more like dumbfoundeness than anything else. But have no fear.... I'm not quite ready to hang up my XL with carbon speedsters, lol.

Yep Lambow, got it all cleaned off and the blood on the john door too. Thanks for being there...

Ronin, he was a "scrub" buck.... left side nothing but a 7" main beam and the right side 2 tines, one of which having an acorn-sized gall in the middle of it.

This hunt was so eerie, it's hard to explain... but I will anyways, lol.

The whole thing was like deja-vu.... same tree (Ole Faithful), deer was in exact same spot, same stand height, same angle of entry, same shot placement, same type of broadhead, same penetration result, same runaway route, and deer went down in the same spot.

This happened 5 years ago, but with just one major difference....

I was shooting a 55# recurve!!!

I can't explain why that is, and I don't think I'll write Dr. Ashby anytime soon to get an opinion on it either, lol.

Hey, you Detroit boys.... you should just feel fortunate there's a rain delay tonight holding off the inevitable.... the Red Birds being just one game away from taking it in FIVE!!! haHA

Dan, my roots are from southern Iowa. When I was a kid, we used to go down to St. Louis to watch Bob Gibson, Mike Shannon, Tim McCarver, Lou Brock and the likes.... yeah, I'm an older guy, lol.

Congrats, Piney!

Good shot, right where you want 'em.

That buck has a lot of weight to it; and it looks like he will pack out nicely in the freezer!

I hope that your success helps carry over here in PA. I have heard about a lot of nice bucks being taken this week in PA, the first bucks that I had heard about being taken at all in the keystone state.

The pre-rut is underway AND it can only get better!:highfive:
