Christian friends,
In my years as a police chaplain I've seen many horrible things. Last night I experienced one of the worst situations ever. I was called to the scene of an auto accident. I was told on the radio that there were four occupants in the van - a mother and three daughters. The mother had lost control of the van during a rain storm. The van had run off of the road and rolled several times. None of them were wearing seat belts. When I arrived, the youngest daughter (four years old) had been thrown out of the van - she was dead at the scene...her name was Miriam Yemane.
The mother and two other (older) daughters were taken to the emergency room of the hospital. The father, a doctor himself, met us at the hospital. I spent the rest of the evening counseling with the family, relatives, and police officers. It wasn't until I laid down to sleep around midnight, that I realized how much I was hurting inside for this family. My wife and I lost a child just two years ago.
The doctor and his family immigrated here from Ethiopia just a few years ago. They are Christians. They are very faithful members of one of the churches here. The father is highly respected as a competent and caring physician.
Would you please pray for this family? While I know that this family has great faith in Jesus Christ, they need the peaceful touch of the Holy Spirit in their hearts right now. The mother told me that she feels as if she is responsible for the death of young Miriam. Please pray that God will comfort them. Please pray that God will use all of us here to do our best to meet their physical and emotional needs. We all pray that the "Great Physician" himself will replace their loss with an even greater measure of faith, grace, and peace.
Thank you for praying,
Richard Allen
