I remember when I was a kid there were lots of pheasents around but I haven,t seen all that many in probably a good 10 yrs now.

Last night on the way home there was 2 ring necks squared off on the side of the road and they let my wife and I stop along side them as they danced....not many "punchs" thrown but it sure was cool ta watch em from real close as they matched each others head bobs and darts.Several yrs ago I saw a cock pheasent with 3 hens along side the road.....Both I and the guy in front of me slowed right down, I,ll be darned that dang cock jumped up and attacked the pickup in front of me......he,ll never do it again LOL I just couldn,t believe such a small bird had the *$%$%# ta attack somethin so muc bigger.

Anybody else witness any battles ??

Hey that was cool Swampy... rare occurences.

Never seen 'em fight, just a lot of unseen cackling and kaw-kawing.

Saw a red-tail hawk try to swoop down and grab a hen turkey once. She sure did the "duck & run" real fast!

Also saw a dumber than dumb doe in Nov. race a school bus alongside the road until she caught up with it... then turned and ran right in front of the bus. Sure made for some good backstraps and sausage though.

There just as dumb over here un the UK.
There are a lot of pheasnts around where i live and they seem to wait at the side of the road and jump out in front of you.
However there is a law over here that says if you kill anything by hitting it with your car you are not allowed to pick it up and take it away. The guy in the car behind you can though! Go figure!! :sbrug:

We used to watch the pheasants fight in the spring. We lived in the rice country of northern Calif. and you could always count on seeing at least one or two a spring. Not many as close as you have seen though.

In Oregon I remember a golden eagle going after a coyote though. I was watching the coyote through binocks and he all the sudden took off high tailing it. I couldn't figure out what it was until I heard the air off the wings of the eagle. I don't know how far up the bird was when he started but the dive was impressive. The coyote managed to get into cover in time. It was pretty cool to watch.

I'm not sure if the bird was just guarding some territory or actually after a meal.

Last season I watched a red fox chase a squirrel, while the squirrel 'taunted' the fox. This went on for several minutes. The fox would walk away and the squirrel would leave it's tree to land behind the fox, then run for the tree again.

At the end of the chase the fox was off the ground "hugging" the trunk of a tree, sort of hanging on, looking up. The squirrel was above the fox, nose down, about a foot away. Both of them were scolding each other vociferously!

LOL thats funny Esquire, I had a squirrel get about 2' from my face in the tree next to me and rip me a new one for removeing part of it,s tail with a judo......I just started laughin I couldn,t believe how pissed off this tree rat was....at least it didn,t jump over with me.

As far as pheasents being dumb...Id hafta say ya.....that one discribed in the earlier post lierally jumped up feet first and lit into that pickup like it figured them itty bitty spurs was gonna do somethin HAHAHAHA

I saw a robin fall to the ground in front of me on top of a chipmonk that must been going after the nest.......Dang thing thudded against the ground peckin the sh$$#$ outta that chipmonk
