I was thinking of buying some 2blade Simmons glue-on Interceptors and mounting them on an adapter for my hunting setup this year. My arrows will be 650+ grains and my bow (if it comes in :P ) will be a 60#@29" border recurve....the toughest animal I'll hunt will be an elk...do these heads leave good blood trails? how is the penetration? will they work well on elk? can I sharpen them well with a paper wheel sharpener? Thanks!
Craig

also, should I get the 165grain heads or the 135 grain ones?

aaahhhhhh 2blade.......this sight has two resident simmons nuts on it......james and myself.........they will simply unzip anything you put them in and if you need a blood trail......it will be as good as it comes......2 or multiblade......the interceptor has been my go to war head for 4 years now and other than i'm trying the tree shark this year just to see........i don't have any reason to ever try another head...........the interceptor is 1 9/16 wide by 2 5/8 long........it does the job in spades. the treeshark is 2 " wide and 2 5/8 long and comes in at 165..........the interceptor glue ons come 165 solids and 150 vented......the tiger shark is the 135 grn head and is the same width as the interceptor but not as long......if you need less weight......it does the same job as the interceptor.........james has used the treeshark......i'm waiting for this heat to go away and hopefully will try one soon on a crop permit.........the treeshark will do everything but wrap the meat for you......

simmons makes a wheelie sharpner that is the best thing since sliced bread ........there's a thread on one of the other sites going off about it and the technique needed to use it........they also make a diamond rod that is a must for these heads if you want that finished razor edge........i just use the wheelie and the diamond to finish........have used a chainsaw file to start them ....but the wheelie is all you need........just by their design alone.......they are one wicked head with a cutting action that regular two blade heads can't match...........which is what gives them the superior blood trails...........b

2blade....I'm pretty lucky to get to hang out with elkdreamer and this fall I'll have a quiver full of Interceptors because of his experiances with them. They are tricky to sharpen. Not real effective on the paper wheel from what some tell me because of that curve in the blade. That half round file helps and I even used a chain saw file. The angle they use is alot steeper than I have used on Delta's etc. I am waiting to get the $7.00 wheel sharpener that Simmons sell to try but I watched elkdreamer put a wicked edge on with a redi edge and round file.

I got the Safari model...the screw on Interceptors and was pleased with how well they spun...very straight. I would stick with the 165 Intereceptor...little longer blade.

Good Luck:cheers:

One more question before I order some...are they made to fit an 11/32" taper? thanks,
Craig

I have been surprised how well those interceptors fly...haven't had the chance to check out the blood trails yet...hopefully soon...

would it be wise to use the Interceptors out of my 54#@29" ACS with 685gr. arrows or my Border BD HEX4 (hopefully she comes in in a couple o' weeks) 60#@29" with 640gr. arrows for elk?

which ever one you shoot the best........you have much more horsepower with both bows than you need with that kind of arrow weight and interceptors.......a 50 # bow and a matched arrow with an interceptor will blow through most anything you want to shoot in this country........the narrow lead on these blades is what starts the muscles comming apart......the following wide blade and blade motion doesn't have much resistance to overcome......all the back end does is cut..... cut...... cut.......the backend just keeps the "comming apart going"........and every muscle movement reaction wise that the animal makes just enhances a change of direction of that "comming apart".......that's what makes the design so effective......conventional 2 blade heads cut.....punch through......and for the most part do what they are supposed to.........the simmons by design puts more mechanical advantage to the equation of the 2 blade.......you will see once you hit something with one..........b

I ordered 6 165 grain Interceptors....will order more if I can get em sharp and they fly well.
