kykiller, sorry to hear the PT couldn't solve the problem. Remember that Ibuprofen and ice are your friends. I also think that fish oil, which as you know is high in o3s, helps decrease inflammation and speed recovery. I have also been taking a few extra antioxidants (vitamins C and E, selenium, and green tea) on the assumption that surgery is a stress and stress produces extra free radicals.

Best luck for a speedy, and more imporantly COMPLETE, recovery.

We'll I had surgery today. Doc says it went very well. He found a very large tear in my labrium that he bolted down. They left two small tubes in my shoulder which are attached to a pump that keeps a local anistetic dripin to the shoulder. This means my arm stays numb for the next three days. no pain. I'll be back doing PT in few days. And good lord willing back to 300+ lbs. bench press by end of year or first of next. I have lost alot of size and strength in the last 4 months not being able to lift because of pain. I will take my time and every precaution but I'm ready to get back to it.

kykiller,

I am glad to hear your surgery went well. Time is now the key factor and hope you will have plenty of it. By the looks of your sling you won't be waving at your friends for awhile.:p

:luck:

I had surgery for the same thing back on September 14 of this year. Also needed to repair other problems but everything was done arthroscopicly. Stayed in sling for over two weeks and went back for follow-up on Sept 29Everything looked good and now starting to get arm movement out of sling. Alot of muscle tone loss in my right biceps muscle. Starting PT on Oct 15. Got to run but will be back to give further updates!

Sorry, but did not have much time to elaborate on my first post. I am 47 and it looks like I will miss my first bow/deer season in 27 years. Being in the health care profession (Chiropractor), I deal with shoulder problems all the time, so this was not new to me. My problem started back in March and got progressively worse during the next few months! I knew I was in trouble back in June when I could not draw a 25lb bow without significant pain. I of course keep on working and doing re-hab in hopes of it getting better. The last straw was my inability to sleep. I have never been a big pill taker for anything considering my overall good health. So when I need something for pain to sleep, I knew I needed help and ordered an MRI.

MRI diagnosed a SLAP Tear and nothing else. This is a tear of the superior labrum in an anterior to posterior(front to back) motion. Funny thing, this is a young man's injury and affects baseball pictures. Doc told me that because the Labrum was torn for some time, it shredded my rotator cuff. If I had been smart and had it check months ago, the rotator cuff would have not needed any work. They also were forced to do a Capsular Plication for posterior shoulder instability. Now that's a mouth full!! What it means is they were able to stabilize the posterior (back) portion of my shoulder. And last but not least, they did a Decompression and Mumford! So I went in for one tear and they were forced to do four procedures.

The good news is that this was all done Arthroscopicly! That means no big scares!!! My doc stated that five years ago they would have had to lay my shoulder opened to do the work. The advancements in Arthroscopic surgery have improved so much in the last few years, that it is amazing what they can do with such small holes in you shoulder and arm

Thursday (Oct 4) will be three weeks since my surgery. My arm has been in an out of sling for the last week per docs instructions. I have been taking pain meds just for sleeping and no problems during the day. I am suspose to start physical therapy on Oct 15 so we will see how that goes. It's a shame I waited so long for the surgery/repair of my shoulder, but it tuff being a one arm Chiropractor. Being in business for yourself will make you do things you do not want to do, but we just keep going on and on!!!!

Here the bad part!
I ordered a new DAS bow back in December of last year.
It came in July and I have not been able to even string the damn thing, much less shoot it. I just keep looking at her thinking that there will be a day when I am pain free!

God speed on your recovery, you know not to over do it. I strained my back the other day and can't ride my bike, driving me wacko.
