I don't think I can sound any more sarcastic when I say "Wow".

The leg press is a worthless exercise in terms of functionality, and even aesthetically there are much better choices.

Squat at least double bodyweight for a triple and get back to me.

easy there LK, Leg press is a great exercise for power, which i believe is functionality, I cannot do squats.... i dislocated my knee in a MMA match, no my knee tracks inward causing pain when doing Squats.....so i put 1,850lbs and i throw it up as hard as i can for power then catch it on the way back down, great power.

Work back to doing squats, 'cause the leg press cannot compare in terms of athletic development.

Power is synonymous with force in the athletic world, and we all know F=Ma or mA (depending which end of the velocity curve we're on).

Now, the muscles will get stronger with the leg press, but the specificity of squats in relation to sporting movements isn't paralleled by anything else (save deadlifts or olylifts). Leg press can develop your legs as a quad-dominant exercise, it's fine when people have an injury (as are all machines, it's the only time I recommend them), but in terms of sport-specific carryover? Squats will rule all.

hahaha.LK........i know everything you just said, but i dont agree with you, I stopped competing in MMA, and sports, i know focus on powerlifting and pure strength ( clean, no suppliments )...i now only bounce when i need the money. so there is no need to for me to "work back into squats"..they are rough on your joints even if dont properly...if anything i do a few hack squats, other than that..... no need to get caught up in the "squat is numero uno" thing

Actually, if done properly, squats aren't rough on the joints. People have more problems with the leg press than squats. I dunno where you're pulling your stuff from. Oh wait, I can guess.

Any reason you're trying to tell me your life story? I don't care what you focus on or what you do for a living. Although, if you're a powerlifter, you should be squatting. Unless you're one of the fat slobs who simply goes for bench competitions. :)

Gentlemen,

Each exercise or regime has it own desired benifits for the individual. Promoting a certain exercise for its benifits is good, but personal attacks is not necessary.

I would rather see you guys explain the benifits of these exercises instead of demeaning one or the other. This forum is to help those who want to improve their health and I am sure you guys have the knowledge to do that. There are many different training regimements that will benifit all and can be used at their own level of training. Each individual has their own personal goal and how to get there.

Also buddy, don't call yourself a powerlifter if you don't compete. If it's just a hobby, then all you are is a mediocre recreational lifter who happens to do, at most, two of the lifts a powerlifter does in competition. Don't compete? Not a powerlifter.

Oh, and my thread was only put up for GreenGhost, or whatever his name was. He wanted to know my current training schedule, so I put it up for 'im. Nice try though. :highfive:

Lk,

I think you understand perfectly..... you dont care to know my life story, but its alright for you to put your entire workout regiment on its own thread? oh and thanks for not cheating on your flat bench work by using you legs, i was worried:waaah: . My point is listen, this is not a personal trainer nor a professional fitness forum, i hardly think it appropriate for many memeber here, who do not take their workout nearly as serious as you, post regarding their workout and ideas, only to be told that they are wrong by you. These are people who are simply trying to lead a healthier life, not spar 10 times a week.

Just to clarify, I did ask LK to post his workout regimen as it was something of interest to me. I appreciate his posting it. (Sorry I didn't respond sooner, LK, but I have been down in Denver finishing up my daughter's radiation treatment--which, incidentally, went VERY well :)). IMO there is a lot of carry over from LK's dynamic exercise workouts to hunting. Oly lifts and other compound movements together with interval training not only provides solid core fitness (especially the posterior chain), but also have a fair degree of sport specific carryover.

Finally, FWIW, unless you are injured I think that squats (back squats, front squats and overhead squats and other compound lifts) are a far superior general fitness tool than isolation movements (single joint exercises). But there is a lot of misinformation on squats out there. [Two points: don't do partial squats and absolutely NEVER go near the Smith machine!] Pay close attention to form, don't get forward with the weights (creates serious sheer stress on the spine), and go deep. Check your ego and do lighter weights with good form if need be.

Best, Marc

agreed, This post got a little carried away, as i said before i have joint issues including an impact fracture on medial collateral condyle. so squats cause me pain. Still able to do clean jerks, snatches, dead lifts, and power strokes.

Aww, how cute - the mods deleted my post 'cause it's not polite enough.

Lame - people are coddled too much.
