View Full Version : My Mom prayers please!
As mothers day is fast approaching I would ask you to please send up a prayer for my Mom, Marian. She has been in severe back pain for quite a few months now and we just learned that she will need two surgeries. She is in her late seventies and healing will take a long time. The first operation on the 25th is to open the canal to allow the spinal cord to have room. If that works in several months they will do the lower back where the nerves are pinched, The pain had worn her down and I hope she can hold on. Her strong faith is all she has to lean on right now. Thanks in advance to everyone. John

I will pray too. Both for her comfort and that the surgeons are on their best game the day they do her surgeries.

Just a short update. We spent Mothers Day in the hospital. Mom had some problems with the pain medication and some side effects. Only eight days until the neck surgery, She came home today, it is a tough decision but Mom has to try to see if the Doctors can stop the pain. I can not see how she can do it but she determined to. I will keep you all informed. Keep up the prayers. Thank You! John
The first surgery is behind us. It went well they were able to make room for the spinal fluid for the #4-5-6-7 neck vertebre. They put in spacers bone shims and screws, turned the neck into little cabinet hinges. The pain has been intense mostly from muscle spasms they say. Looks like at least another week in the hospital and then a couple weeks in a step down unit. Mom said if she knew the pain was this bad she wouldnt have done it. The worst thing is this was just a 3 hr operation the next one is 5. She is one tough lady! PLEASE keep up the prayers I know they are answered. John
We'll keep praying John. Hang in there.

Yes, we will. Thanks for the update.
Mom started to show some improvments today. My brother said it was because I left! LOL I had to go back to work after 10 days off. We moved to a step down unit on Friday and had a few setbacks over the wekend. Finally we seem to have her medications right and now maybe we can get on with the rehab. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and please keep it up. You are wonderful friends and I am very thankful. John

Mom came home today! She is so much more comfortable there. Still a long road ahead to get ready for the next surgery. She has come so far this last week with your continued prayers we will be ready and waiting when they tell us her neck is healed enough to progress with the back. At least 90 days but at least we can see the finish from here. THANK YOU again. God bless! John
Well another holiday another update. Mom has had a few setbacks but we are still able to keep plodding along toward recovery enough to permit the next step. Two weeks ago she had a large drainage from the wound sight and they operated and installed a wound vac. She now has a large diamond shape hole about 4" long at the sight of the operation. That has a sponge type dressing in it and sealed and hooked to a vacume pump. It has not healed much but after the trip to the doctor today we are we are a little encouraged. There is no sign of any infection and they are pretty sure that the drainage was caused by an accident she had in the hospital. Seems like she tried to get out of bed about the fourth night aftter the surgery and got wedged in between the rail and the mattress. She was stuck tight with her back against the rail when the nurse got to her. I guess thats better news than infection which is what we feared. But still a needless setback. It could be months before it closes up.
Keep the prayers comming we thank you all so much!
John
Keep reminding us, and we'll keep praying John.

My prayers for your Mother continue.

I guess when it rains it pours! Mom has to have another operation on her neck Monday. When she went for her check up on thursday they found a strange bone growing. Not sure why but it has to be removed. May have something to do with the grafts they put in I guess we will find out monday. To top it off she got a BIG rain on Thursday night and had muddy water come in both doors and leave a mess on the carpet and in the laundry room floor also filled the garage with mud. To some one with lesser faith it would have been a problem but with the help of our family and some wonderful neighbors the house and yard are nearly back to normal.
Remember my Mother Marian in your prayers Mom and I really thank you all! John

John,
I'm sorry to hear about this. I will continue to pray for your mom and for you and your family, as well.
Mike
Trials are tough. And yeah, sometimes, it seems like when it cannot get worse, it does. But thank goodness we have a heavenly Father to turn to.
We will continue to pray.

Mom came thru operation #3 so far so good. The bone they had to remove was from the old bone and not the new graf. We were home Monday night. The clean up of the flood is going well also a local contractor and his crew came and hauled mud dirt and rocks away, about 25 tandem loads, now we will let it dry and put on topsoil and reseed. No luck with the state on rerouting the cause of the flood. THANKS for the continued support and prayers. I know we are on the mend! John

For what it's worth, I'll ask for that, John. And for you, too. I've been through that with both parents, and when you really care for them and value what they gave you, I'm not sure who's in the most pain. The best to you and to your Mom.
