I have recently come into possession of a rather large chunk of Eucalyptus. It has a very dense and fine grain. the piece is easily 6 feet long. Has anyone used this wood for bows?? I would like to make one from it, or at least a riser from it. Any thoughts or comments??

thats a hard question to answer as there are so many species of eucalyptus. do you know the origin of your board? also the color.
some species of gum are'nt strong at all and some are very hard, heavy and strong.
if you know the botanical name of your wood i could give you an idea of it's properties.

Larry,
I dont know the botanical name, but I can give you a detailed description of it. Its actually not a board, but a 6 foot section of trunk. My mother had nutured it from a young cuting and we recently had to take it down. It was a total hight of 22 feet tall. The bark would peel off and shred very easily. The limbs and branches look like the stuff you see in floral arrangments. The log sits in the living room drying. It is very fine grained from what I see, and light in color. I hope this helps.
