I've shot for score 3 times now. I shot my first one a month or so ago and shot a 176. A couple weeks later I shot a 226. Last night I shot a 250 and then proceeded to shoot even better after the scoring stopped.
Getting accustomed to shooting with people around has been the hardest part. I usually practice alone in the back yard. My scores are starting to reflect my actual skill level, as I get more comfortable with the pressure of scoring and being watched.
260 here I come!

That 250 is a very fine score in anyone's book, Pt. You'll find it a little harder to get traction on the road up to 260. On the way there, don't forget to celebrate yourself for consistency in all the rounds you shoot that are above 240. For me, that made what turned out to be a very long road a little easier to travel. But you're off to a heck of start by shooting over 240 on only your third round scored. I'm glad I'm old enough to forget how many pencils I went through waiting to post a score better than 240. Even the best shooters - the guys who consistently break 280 - will find themselves in the 240s-250s on occasion.

Welcome aboard CrowCreek
Yea the 300 round can be FUN and frustrateing at the same time LOL I enjoy it because most critters I shoot at are within 5 yrds of that distance.

I was speaking of the NFAA indoor 300. The distance is 20 yards. The target is a 40cm blue and white face single spot. Sixty arrows are scored. You shoot 12 ends of 5 arrows. You get 4 minutes to shoot your 5 arrows.
The white is scored as a 5. The other rings are 4,3,2, and 1. If an arrow touches a line, it is scored as the higher scoring ring. What I mean is, if your arrow even touches the ring around the white, it counts as a 5.
The little circle with the x in it is for breaking ties. An arrow in it or touching it is called an "x". 60 "x"s would be a perfect 300.
You can find out more at the NFAA Documents page (http://www.nfaa-archery.org/about/documents.cfm) Click on Archery Range Guidelines.
So what about scores for traditional?
240s good
250s better than most
260s often wins at the state level
270s wins at the national level
280s :youdaman:
The NFAA Indoor Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky were just held. Hopefully scores will be posted soon.

I think I'm going to need wheels to catch those guys at the Nationals.

I average about 225 on the 300 round. It used to be I was happy if I averaged 200 a year ago. The indoor 300's have definately improved my archery. I started them about a year and a half ago as a way to keep tabs on how my shooting buddies around the country and I were doing against each other. When I'm in the "zone" I can shoot in the 240's plus. I think my highest was a 254.
It will sure encourage you to get your arrows tuned to your bow! And work on your form. My biggest challenge is consistancy. I'll shoot 4 arrows in the 5-ring and get a "flyer" out in the 2-ring! :sbrug:
Its true what they say about archery being a lot about the mental game.

WOW this site is incredible. I finally got a bow I can easily shoot after laying off for a period of time and love it. My first indoor shoot with it landed me an even 240. I know it's in the middle of the pack but I was happy. Congrats on the 250+ shooting. That's incredible! A few well placed shots add up in the end. :youdaman:

Good job. What kind of bow are you shooting?

I got involved in an indoor league shooting Vegas style rounds. I thought it would help with shooting in general but now I'm not so sure. Shot my first 300 in several months two weeks ago and got a 266. Shot one Sunday and only got 254. Since my personal best was a 271 I seem to be re-gressing instead of pro-gressing.

Swamp,
From now on I'm staying away from those Vegas 3-spots. They seem to be messing up my head (if you can belive that - lol). From now on it's those blue targets and that little white center. Maybe the simpler color scheme is easier for my middle aged brain to understand. (smiley face goes here)
