Got called (along with a few others) one of "Warf's minions" on "that other site". I kind of like that. Beats being one of G. Fred's. ;)
Warf's Minion,
Scooter :)
That's kind of like being called one of Robin Hoods men. Not so bad. What do I have to do to join up?

You made me go back and check that thread. Did you like my traditional picture of a metal riser? Guess I'm also a minion like you, Scooter. Not a bad place to be!

Doesn't seem to be a shortage of closed minds, when it comes to traditional archery....does it?

Bet it was by somebody I turned down on a warfer. Not everybody who want's one get's one. These bows arn't for everybody, only those with open minds and beer budgets....warf

I hope I'm included in that group! That is so cool Scooter, I can't say what I'm usually called. I guess I could type it and then have the distinction of being the first to have a post pulled on the new board.

I just have to know what thread, so I can stir the pot . :goodvevil

But I guess that's understandable since anyone who mentions my handle on their site instantly gets banned for their transgression. Just like it is in some of the union shops I've seen, a fellow who works hard and strives to excel becomes very unpopular very quickly. "That just ain't the way we do things around here, boy".

Decided not to post the battle is going well for our side. The antagonists are being overwhelmed by reason.

Somebody post the link so I can reply to it. :)

I am rather ignorant, but why is it so important to some people to be a true "traditional" archer. In one of those threads on the other forum, one fellow was downright bitter about someone calling themselves traditional if they shoot metal riser bows and carbon arrows. Why does the man care? Why is a definition so important?
Like a few others, I like non-compound archery because of its practical simplicity. I also like no sights for the same reason. Murphy's law was written with me in mind. I don't think of myself as superior to compound archers or non-compound archers who use sights. I am just less tolerent or less capable of managing complicated things.
If someone doesn't like someone because of the material his riser is made from, I can't imagine what they would think of someone who doesn't even like archery!
I have to admit that sometimes I actually consider getting out of archery because of this type of emotionalism. I don't understand it and don't want to be associated with those who think that way. In the end, of course, I refuse to let emotionally handicapped people drive me from an enjoyable pastime. Also, I simply don't see this type of attitude in real life, probably because when I see/hear a loudmouth at a shoot, I give him a wide berth and never hear what he has to say.

Dclark,
Stick around this place a little while and any angst created by other places will drain away. Papa put it well in another post - some traditional archery sites place the emphasis on "traditional", (and I would add without properly understanding the word at times).
This traditional archery site places the emphasis on Archery. I have learned much in my short time here.

Ditto what esquire said.
A guy a work with is into primitive archery and makes his own self bows, arrows and flint heads. It's just his thing. He thinks my gamemaster and warf bow are neat as heck just not him. He also brings in every bow he makes for me to check out which is cool Different strokes for different folks. BTW way he shot my league a few weeks ago and flat smoked half the crowd there with one of his bows while shooting carbons  . He doesn't know it's not traditional to shoot carbons out of a self bow and he doesn't care. He shoots the carbons for practice because it takes him too dang long to make a dozen good self arrows
Not sure why others can't be so open minded..

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't seem to find that many rabid folks among the trad shooters I encounter. I think it also behooves us to try to lead by example so to speak. One quick example. A couple weeks ago I was shooting in my yard where I tend to be a bit paranoid because its a corner lot and I'm visible from two streets.
While I'm shooting, this yahoo on a cafe racer type bike had been roaring up and down the street and I'm muttering about where the cops are when you need them. The next thing I know he pulls into my driveway and pulls his helmet off. I'm thinking if the guy's psychic I'm in trouble. He comes toward me in about a $500 set of leathers and boots and tells me how neat he thinks my recurve is. Turns out he is a nationally rated PSE pro shooter, lives a couple blocks away, and he invites me to come shoot his 3-D practice targets.
We had a nice general conversation about archery and he handled my bow as if it were an artifact. Might be, as I know I have a couple bows and a quiver that are a lot older than he is. Bottom line I guess, is there was no hint of a negative comment from either of us, I now have a close place to shoot, and he waves every time he roars by when I'm shooting.

Gray Fox,
My own personal experiences with other archers have been more reflective of your experience. I never seem to meet the grumpy, fussy or stuck up kind.
Good post. Thanks. It's always a good thing when our negative expectations are pleasantly disappointed. :)

Most of my face to face contact with other archers has been positive even while shooting my heavy metal bows. It seems there are a few knuckheads on some boards that like to wear their Fedora's and hide behind their computer screen and the internet. Man I'm glad I found this site.

Ya know, I was going to reply to that thread but I figured that it wouldn't be worth it. Some people just feel the need to undermine anything that isn't the same as them. I use metal risered recurves, carbons, etc because I haven't found anthing I shoot better. Sure I've got wood bows that look prettier but not prettier than a fantastic group at 40 yds. :shooting: :)
