View Full Version : Life changing event!
Well I am 56+ years old and something happened yesterday that is changing my life! My DAS KINETIC HUNTER arrived! Wow has David hit on a winner. I have been shooting top of the line archery equipment most of my adult life. Both compound and recurve. I have bought so many bows that at one time Hoyt had my credit card on file.
I have been on a quest for the perfect hunting weapon, my former bows reads like a Whos Who of recurve archery! Morrison,Robertson,Widow,Brackenbury, Hoyt, Bear,Howatt,Wing, if you can think of a bowyer I will probably had at least one. I have owned them all and still have about 50 or so still.
Well guys and gals I am as sure as I have ever been that my search is over! David and his DAS KINETIC Hunter is everything that I have been looking for in a bow. The perfect package. From the first arrow I knew there was something special, like an old friend. Shoots where I look and is very stable and forgiving. I dont know where to begin, its beautiful, the right length weight every feature I have been looking for is here! Totally tunable
58" AMO length with a short strong riser with all the adjustability I need. No hand shock, carbon limbs over 200fps 28" 400 gr. WOW is about all I can say.
Before you think this is a commercial let me tell you that I paid more for this bow than any before in my life. And best of all it is worth it. Any of you who want to shoot this thing make your way to beautiful down town Worthington Pa. and you are welcome. Warning!!!!! You will have to have one! :shooting:
More to come I will get the tuning finished and will tell ya more about this shooting machine! :) :) :) John

How much does that riser cost?
What is the draw weight you are getting those numbers out of?
I've got one on order, and cannot wait for mine to get here.
Thanks John,
I'm almost embarrassed! John's bow is 50#.
50#, 28", 400 grain arrow? That seems pretty darn good. I wonder what one of these long armed knuckle draggers could get out of it?

DAS there is nothing to be embarassed about. You set out to build a good hunting setup with all the advatages of target equipment in a more hunter freindly length. It sounds like you did just that and did it well. :) Congradulations on a job well done and to you John on your new bow! :highfive:

Wait and see.
mine arived today also
DAS tested mine at 48lbs at 216fps at my draw length of 30.5/8.
Haven’t shot it yet as it was dark when I arrived home (the wife didn’t want to hold the lantern and swat mosquitoes)
Its looks better then the pics. The workmanship is top notch. It’s a work of art. More to post when I start tuning it. Maybe I can get the dog to hold the light

DAS, other than the pictures in the photo gallery do you have a web site or brochure were folks can get more info about your bows? Inquiring minds want to know (smiley face goes here).
Dave
Thanks Guys,
I really appreciate it! When I set out to build this thing I was so lucky to have the depth of knowledge available from this site! I hand picked a few super guys to advise me and help me work out the details. If I had done this alone, it would have been an OK bow. These guys made it a great bow!!! They are still helping me work out the last remaining details. The bow has been a success because of the work of EVERYONE. Bob Gordan, Limbwalker, Cato, Black Wolf and Van/fl have been part of this team from day one, and they have influenced my design work in many ways! It all started one afternoon on the phone to Bob talking about possibilities. Bob's pioneering work was the genesis of everything I've done.
This site has the most incredible depth of knowledge and skill!!! If I hadn't found this place, and all these great people, it never would have happened!
So if I'm going take a bow, I'm going to take it in the direction of these guys!!!! I'm humbled in their presence.

My congratulations to DAS as well.
Those that are now receiving their new Kinetics have every reason to be excited about them. A very challenging ambitious project, on-time schedule, and results seem to have met objectives and then some. I'd like to thank DAS for staying in touch as his project progressed.
Very nice work, David...
from the initial reports of first owners, you've got a winner there! :)
Hey guys - keep us posted on your "days in the life of a DAS Kinetic"... ;)
DA,
I don't have a website. I do have info I can email you. Anyone interested should just PM me. Robert and I are talking about making this a tradmall product. We have both been so busy with our projects that it will be a little while yet! Wait time for a bow ordered today is about 6 to 8 weeks.

Man just getting all geared up to get warfed then along comes the kinetic bow. :o Dog gone it, I can't afford to be a BOHO :sbrug:
Looks and sounds like cool bow DAS...
I have to tell you guys, that I've been about to bust wanting to get my hands on one of these things. It has so many cool features you won't believe it. The riser has tuning features that allow it to be tuned for peak performance at your draw length and for your limb choice. How cool it that?
There is a weighting system that allows you to add riser weight while maintaining perfect balance. There is a removable radiused shelf deal, so you can shoot off the shelf in those shoots that require it. The quiver mounts allow you to alter the angle of the quiver. It is designed to take and comes with a Hoyt recurve grip. They say it is quiet. And it it is definitely fast.
I'll let you know more after mine gets here.

David, first off congrats on the intial feedback on your bows. I can't wait to get my paws on Cato's and see what all the fuss is about. I just find it very cool that some people have the ability to create things. It is a blessing to be talented and the fact that you show humility in the forefront is admirable as well. I can't wait to see this puppy.

What type of limbs, glass/maple, carbon/maple or carbon foam, did you guys order? Great looking bow and the adjustability for draw length performance sounds intriguing to a short armed scudder like me.
Thanks Roby,
Cato and I talk almost daily, and keeping this project underwraps has been kiilling him! He keeps asking me "Can I just tell Roby???" I'm shipping his tomorrow, but good luck getting it away from him!

Your telling me! He told me sometime back that he was discussing this bow project with a guy but couldn't tell me who. Then he says you want believe this or that but I can't tell you. He explained the riser to me in theory and made me sign a waiver not tell anybody. Just kidding.
I want get it away from him but I might coax him into letting me run a few arrows thru it.

Now I really like the idea of the shelf/rest feature. How about a picture of how that works?Sounds like a good idea for me to steal for my new warfer.
Mark,
My limbs are carbon laminated with maple and they are soo sweet, I dont think I could have made a better choice The workmanship that David has produced is something to see. A work of art!
Got up this morning to listen to the Gobblers on the roost and get some close ups of the bow so maybe pictures of it before work.
To answer Rods comment, about the only Bow that I have not owned is one of your Adcocks I might not have lived long enough to wait for one of them and he doesnt make recurves or Alloy risers.
As to the life changing title to my post now I will be spending my spare time looking for limbs to try out of Davids PERFECT riser. :shooting: John
Lets see if I can get a couple riser Pics. My computer skills equals my camera skills."0"

Nice job !!!
Swampy,
You could wrap the whole riser in rawhide and she'll never know! LOL!
Actually, I don't think we fool our wives any more than we fooled our mothers. They just give us a pass!

LOL Yea right, she,s pretty darn sharp about things like that and she doesn,t even shoot (hopefully yet) .She knows I,ve got an ACS coming soon and she was ok with me "haveing to" buy the hummingbird I,m shooting right now after ordering the Adcock because of getting cracks in the limb tips of my hatfield, but I can tell ya when I brought that hatfield home brand new along with my high counrty brand new compound at the same time and she didn,t know it was comeing .....lets just say it,s not a bad idea to just be right upfront about "haveing to" get another new bow and lets not forget the arrows to go with it

Question one: How long is the riser?
Question two: Will anyone who has one of these beautiful beasts be at the Compton shoot in June? I REALLY want to see one
Other DWS,
Man David hit a HOME RUN. Perfect in every way. 17" riser that fits Hoyt grip. You will have one! Cant make Comptons but I will make Denton Hill in July if you can wait til then. Sweet! She is my"QUEEN" bow! I feel like I won the lottery. :shooting: John

04-07-2005, 02:26 PM
David how much does your riser weigh?
James,
The riser weighs 1lb 14ozs, average weight of a complete bow is 2 lbs 10 ozs. The optional weighting system which fits into the hole directly below the grip allows you to incrementally increase the weight up to a total bow weight of 4lbs. It takes just seconds to remove the weights and go hunting, or dial in the feel you like and shoot a 3D course. The weighting system also allows you to fine tune the balance of the bow to suit you. If you look at the pics in the gallery, that bow has a weight set installed. The weights are made of solid brass and bronze.

How much performance is lost with the addition of the camo on the limbs ??

I been bit---BAD !!! now I gotta cull the rack. thats going to be painful but I have to have one of these bows. I'll probably be listing some things on the trade blanket soon
Swampy,
David says little of no impact; 2 fps or so, to add the camo, at least that is what I recall.
Swampy,
Maybe you should put me on your "ignore list" :) ! If you wake up in the middle of the night sweating and dreaming about it though, you're beyond hope!
Cato is correct. The limbs that I tested the camo on went from 218.0 fps to 216.2 fps. Just a hair under 2 fps. That's pretty minimal.

Wayne...I read that the famous Betty Ford clinic for hollywood addictions is setting up a special wing for those who have been warfed. I understand that is a tough one to cure but training you to shoot compounds is part of the anti-warf cure, you get the metal riser but they come with wheels on the ends, they have a waiting list....warf

I could have worse addictions.
No chemical dependencies--other than coffee I guess, too poor for fast cars and fast women----and too old and ugly for slow women
I know a guy--a guy mind you--- who is an absolute freak over Hummel figurines. a couple of years ago there was a national plate collectors convention here in South Bend---local news interviewed some of them---now there's a real twisted bunch. That Thomas Kincaid guy was here and you'd have thought it was the Second Coming------of Elvis.
Then we got a big bunch of John Deere collectors. some of them have extra barns just for their collectable tractors. I saw a guy pay enough for or 4 of DAS best bows for a simple 3-spd schwin bike that was painted green and sold or given away by JD as a promotion. (there's big $$$$ in farming--yours and mine)
no thank you---I'll stick to my bows and guns :sbrug:
For just about the cost of 2 master DAS bows you can buy a skinny little stick of bamboo with a handful of metal rings on it, then use it to catch a 3 dollar fish. What's that they say about one man's treasure?
Got to thinking about it this morning and have made a search and it was a year ago on April 5th that my DAS arrived. My thoughts about the bow havent changed much but my shooting sure has. For the better! I am still not a good shot but I am getting better every day! Its because of the DAS bow and the guy who made it!
Would the Deer of my lifetime be in my avatar and on my camp wall without my DAS? Probably it was only about a 4 yard shot, the thing is that I would have had the confidence to make the shot at at 20-30 yards.
Thanks David you have changed my LIFE! :highfive: John
Ok, Iv not budget in a DAS yet, so you should be punished for making me want to give one a go round even moren ow.
bad archer-person you  . LOL
Glad to hear you not changed much on your thinking. I always here it with other bows, always a bonus when a bow fits you like a glove.

Hello Hoofchaser ~
Are you new on board? Welcome to the crew. :) And don't mind these guys, we have such a diverse group of shooters, shooting so many types, forms and styles, that we have to poke fun at each other occasionally.
I don't know Rose City POC arrows, but I've heard mixed reviews of Port Orford Cedar shafts, lately. Evidently there has been a drop in the quality of the cedar in general, not sure why. Not the fault of the people making the arrows, but rather complaints from the arrowmakers themselves. So maybe it's just getting harder to procure good quality POC, period!
I've heard good things about Rose City Archery overall, though.
Cheers ~

Again a thank you David Soza is in order. It is hard to believe that it has only been two years since we got our first DAS kinetics bows.
I am now waiting anxiously for the next generation 21" elite and thinking about what a change this heavy metal bow has made in not only my archery life but in the thinking of thousands of recurve shooters.
Thank you David for sharing your dream with all of us! You have changed the way I think about archery and how it relates to hunting.
Your impact is far more than you realize on the "trad" world.

I'll second everything John said! I was on the same path - probably went thru 40 bows looking for the "magic". Lost track of who, but think John and I swapped at least one.
Since getting my DAS 1 1/2 ago, I have not bought another bow - just some limbs! Got 8 or so still on the wall that are lonely and dusty.
Thanks David

I have the Dalaa and a 21" coming. In my case it was a life affirming event. I had been shooting Sky Hunter Surpreme rises till I found out that the Sky Hunter Surpreme limbs would bolt on Hoyt Spectra Compound risers. They were pretty cheap to get hold of. With the Sky AL risers I have several Proline riser with Groves limbs. I also had an older Gold Medalist riser and several sets of ILF limbs I hunted with and shot limited targts with.
When I heard about DAS I came straight here. By then David had quit taking orders on the Master but I order a Dalaa from the first batch. LOL I gotta say it was a real step up from the AL risers I had been shooting.
So I found out I had been right all along and that there was a much better way to do what I was doing.
For me this is like way cool man! David skill and drive in the building the riser and the best shoots around experience and knowledge laid with care in the riser. WAAAAYYY cool man

I started out with a 3 Rivers Dalaa as my first DAS bow. I eventually put a set of Hoyt G3 limbs on it. It was a smooth shooting combination.
Then I had the opportunity to buy a Gen II DAS Hunter with Win&Win Winex limbs. I got the DAS Hunter, shot it for a couple of weeks and then had the opportunity to buy a set of Border HexIV ILF limbs. I once owned a Border Black Douglass recurve with HexIV limbs, so I knew how great they were. I now have the Border ILF limbs with maple cores on my DAS Hunter riser and they will be my primary limbs.
At draw weight of 51#@28" and shooting 412 gr arrows I'm getting 190 fps through/over a hand held chrony. I would be interested in seeing what I would get with a real chrony that can be calibrated.

Well another year with the DAS. A lot has changed in the last year, the biggest news was that David has decided to discontinue his Masters and Elite risers and concentrate on the DAS 3 Rivers Dalaa. When I found out that there would be no more I knew I must have another. I emailed David and asked if I could have the last one and could it be special. The answer was yes and yesterday I opened a box and found the very last DAS KInetics Master Hunter riser. Yes it is special my eves were misty by the time I got it unwrapped. It is a shame that something that perfect would not continue. The Dalaa is a very special bow, I have one, but my hunter is perfect. Those of us who own one or several of them know what I am talking about. To be Davids first customer and to now own the last Master is an honor. To call him a friend is even bigger. David as you go forward with other projects know that there are lots of us who will always have your back.:youdaman:
Thank you I am looking forward to your next project!

AWESOME riser John! I agree with you on the Master, it is a perfect riser and it's too bad they won't be continued :( It's far and away the best bow I've ever shot, other than the Dalaa, which is close, but the Master is the pinnacle of hunting bow design in my opinion. I have absolutely no complaints about mine.
Once again, congrats on the new riser!!

Time to bring this back to the top for one more time. Now a 60 year old grandfather of 7 but still shooting that DAS and loving it.
A lot has happened in the last year. David has sold his business to the wonderful people at 3 Rivers who will expand on the Dalaa line. I have bought and sold several DAS models and shitched limbs.
Erich (Shortdraw) has the last Gen 1 and I am awaiting a cutdown camo elite.
One more time THANK YOU DAVID! for everything we miss you here!

This was a fun time for me. I had been shooting metal riser since I saw the first one soenwhere in the 60's. I keep shooting them when all my shooting buddies swtiched to compounds. I remember when I found this site. I'd been groping about in archery ignorance for a long time. My second post was something like, what's a WARF?
5 years and more than a dozen WARF's later I was surprised by the gift of a DAS from my wife and best friend.
Now I have several unique bows from David. I am both thrilled and humbled to have been allowed to purchase the original DAS #1 from David, for which he was thoughtful enough to send along a certificate of authenticity.
While my DAS collection is something I treasure, the friendships that I've made in these past several have turned out to be an even greater treasure. Bob Gordon, David Soza, John Conway, Robert Williams and several others have all enriched my life more than I can say.
Thanks for bringing this good thread to the top, John.

What's going on with David these days? Haven't talked to him in a long time...
SA,
David is doing fine. He is working on a new direction for his life and enjoying some quiet time away from the personal attacks that were heaped on him. It seems that the more ethical a person tries to be the more people condemn them. David will be fine and his bows will continue to stand alone at the top!
And his friends will continue to "Have his back".
I am proud to be his first real customer and consider him a friend.
