Dthx,

for carp try here (http://www.tradtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21993&highlight=carp) and here (http://www.tradtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8556&highlight=carp).

Could not speak for gar. The ones I've caught have had such an odor that eating them did not occur to me in the first place.

love gar..one of my favorite fish to eat and easy to clean..just need some kitchen sheers and a filet knife...

cut a v from back to just above the belly scales a few inches infront of the tail and do the same following the scales (don't try to cut them) a few inches behind the gills. then cut a straight line down the back from the tail v cut to the head v cut. Then peel it apart.

once peeled you just run your fillet knife from the spine down to the belly following the ribs. since it's a tubular fish you get fillets without even SEEING guts.

awesome grilled like any other fish... gar balls are fantastic. just look up a recipe. if you cut the fillets into thinner strips or cubes you can make nuggets and fingers very similar to chicken nuggets and fingers in texture. Outstanding firm meat and tastes very clean.
