Samick Mizer

I’m considering one of these risers for my 12 year old daughter. About the only negative I have heard of is that the grips are small but that won’t be a problem with her and her small hands.

She is currently shooting a W&W Evolution with 20 pound limbs and I want to move to a riser that is ILF.

What are your thoughts on the Mizer riser?

Thanks,
Lane

Very nice riser for the money and very quiet and very soft on the shot. Tiller and limb allignment adjustable. The grip was a tad tight for my hand. I don't have very large hands so keep that in mind if you look at one. I converted the grip to a low wrist and did a little filing on the riser and then it was plenty comfortable. Hank has it now so I'm sure he'll join in with his opinions.

Everything is fine but the small grip.I have one that has only had a couple dozen arrows shot through it if you are interested in some sort of trade. It is not pink however. ;)

James let's PM and we might work out a deal.

We both enjoy the more 'earthy' colors of brown/blue/green but she isn't too picky.

Thanks,
Lane

Well it is not quite earth tones but it does match Hoyt limbs pretty well. :) Hereis a link to a couple of pictures if you want to see it.

If she wants a Pink one :) and you get the one from James PM me and we can do a swap. I'll try to get a pic of mine posted tomorrow. Its a real nice riser if if fits your hand or can be adapted. besides if and when she moves on to other interests you can warf it real good.

James that looks nice and she will be pleased.

the other dws - I'm not thinking a pink bow is in the future so you might want to try a want add somewhere. I have another idea - can you say KRYLON? Thanks for the offer though.

Actually the pink one grows on you, If I ever got good enough for competition it would be worth a few extra points for the distraction value alone.
gotta find some MaryKay stickers or something for it I guess---maybe some lables like I did for the Ultra-Kodiak------kind of an anti-nugent thing

guys, is that riser metal or composite?? Seems like a really nice riser for the cash.

metal, probably a consumer report "best buy" if they did bows. there's better, and fancier, but for the money . . . . .. .

And I thought my risers looked like excess space shuttle parts! That riser looks like a UFO part, but I like it!! Has real nice lines and is pretty streamlined, should make a great 3-D recurve and conversation starter among the trad police, maybe that's why I like it so much....warf

Yeah if they had just done a better job on the grip it would be great. Those Koreans must have itty-bitty hands. :)

plus the grip is also the outside half of the shelf which makes cobbling up a replacement a little tricky

Yeah if I had used it I would have broke out some wood and made something and taped some screws to hold it on.Bob put a stop to all those ideas when he sent me one of his risers. :)

these risers are getting some real good press from the olympic shooters with kids and JOAD's. I guess this riser has a light physical weight and the younger shooters take to it well. Bet the grip has something to do with it as well. That coupled with ILF, low cost and it seems to be a winner. Not sure if replacement grips are available but it is kind of hard to justify a low end riser and then need to stick a $100 Loesch (sp?) grip on it.

Hard pressed to justify that cost--aand to me at least they don't look all that dramatically different. I've dona a couple wood grips myself but I know a good gunstock maker who has a pantograph for duplicating stocks. I ought to contact them and see what they'd charge to do up some unfinished wood grips for a mizar---good tight fit inside but excess wood outside for whittling down. Might give them a chance to use up scraps of some nice wood

That is a great idea. That and the figured wood that the gunstock guys use could make a very nice looking grip when finished.
