My family and I attend the PA Ren Faire every year. I love shooting and getting deeper in the roots of archery, thus how I came about building my own primitives. So how many of you go that deep into the core of our beloved sport?

I have recently joined our local chapter of the SCA, (The Barony March of Mons Tonitrus). While I'm not much for period costume and re-enactment, these folks are active, committed, traditional archers who respect a well made wooden arrow--and that was enough for me. We have weekly two-hour group practice sessions, shoot regular "Royal Rounds", and it does my heart good to see 90% of our archers actually trying to improve their abilities from week to week. Not only do we recreate and socialize, we actually TRAIN....

Most of our membership shoots modern recurves, off the shelf, but I am starting to see more longbows. We provide loaner gear for guests and do everything we can to promote youth archery. We are starting to pick up a few traditional bowhunters, (like me), who get a kick out of enjoying the company of a couple-dozen, fired-up, traditional archers in one place, at one time, on a regular basis. It is refreshing when another archer recognizes and admires a well made self-nock! Check out your local chapter. Share what you know. Do some good....

I joined my local SCA about 2 years ago. Even though I shoot modern events it is fun to see them having a good time.I have helped host a couple shoots and had sponsors of mine donate prizes.

My wife and I dig the Colorado Renn Faire. There is a local SCA, but the website is less than thorough. I wish there was more information readily available.
