Hi Folks,
Just got my first Warfer Riser in today. Its a Proline riser and I have placed a pair of Sky Conquest Limbs on it and would really like to shoot it in a 3D meet in the morning. My plunger and elevated shelf have been ordered so thats out for tonight. However I am in the process of "High Pointing" the shelf and window as suggested by Bill Matlock in his little self published booklet on tuning.
Does anyone have any idea how close this will place me to being "on", or how best to get the bow ready for tomorrow? Surely some Warfer shoots off the shelf.

I haven't read Matlock's booklet for tuning, but I'm sure it describes something like this. For the time alotted, it will do in a pinch I guess.
Velcro, leather or whatever and build-up the shelf nearly 1/2" high adjacent to where plunger hole is located. Then take a thin strip(s) of leather, match stick, velcro, or whatever and place it vertically over the plunger hole. Cover both of these build-ups with thin leather, moleskin, velcro, or whatever with glue ya have laying around that can be removed afterwards. Make sure to leave a crease between shelf and sideplate for feather clearance. Of course you probably have that part down and with the basics out of the way, this is what I know about MY arrows and MY tuning...
When using elevated rest... my flipper is nearly 1/2" up from shelf, plunger sticks out from riser about 3/16", bottom of nock set is about 3/8" up from 90 degrees. The spine of your arrows and poundage of bow will play major role in how far from riser the side plate should be built-out.
When I setup one of my warfers to shoot off shelf later this summer, I'm going to do it similar to the picture attached. I also think that the pads that come with the Hoyt Gamemasters would be easy and work well.
Havin' some fun tonight, huh? I'm installing outserts, nocks, and feathers on some Cabela's SST shafts.

I suppose that as a field-expedient a brush rest could be improvised out of the head of an old softened toothbrush temporarialy glued to the shelf. I have found that the loop side of velcro seems to be more durable than moleskin---but you gotta make sure your fletching tips don't catch in it.

Piney and DWS, thanks for your suggestion. I may not have it built up as much as y'all have suggested, but I have adjusted my nock point down to try and help compensate. I just hope I have built the window out far enough. I'll take two bows with me out to the range and if it shoots good enough, like it is in warming up, I'll shoot my meet with it.
I have it a leather boot lace, under leather as thick as a glove, then seal skin on top of that. Adjusted the nock to the same relative position as it is on my BW. I'll post the results tomorrow.

Well I am going to bite the bullett and take my new bow to the 3D meet today and see how an un-tweaked, un-shot, un-tested, tuned Warfer shoots for me in a 3D meet. At least I'll have plenty of excuses. :) Wish me luck.

hehe... a bit late, but good luck! How'd it go?
Bow probably shot very well as they are nearly self-tuning...
question is, how did the shooter shoot? LOL

Well folks, I'm sorry to say that the bow just beat me so bad today. I was feeling so good after shooting my first 3D meet without a miss last week. Let that go to my head and ego, over-confidence, bad judgement, and that bad old Instant Gratification thing bit my head off.
I was shooting high with the bow and I think its draw weight was too high for me today. I missed five targets completely, and got high 5's on at least six others. Spine or skin shots. Don't blame the bow, it was my arrogance in thinking I could take a bow that hadnt been tuned, that I wasnt sure how it shot for me and enter a 3D meet with it. Just no respect on my part for the foam. I have seen hunters (?) come in the store and buy a new bow and go out the next day and hunt. Believe, me its just as bad a mistake to treat foam with the same lack of respect. Shot a 223 last week, and 177 this week. Both scores on a 30 target, 3D course.
The bow and I are going to have an all day session tomorrow. We both need an adjustment. (grin)

It's the TRAJECTORY FACTOR... ya haven't got your noggin' tuned-in to that speedster yet... :)
Your story somewhat parallels what some were talking about on Gutshot's thread on LW recently. Others don't know what you were really doing and probably saying to themselves... "Hope he doesn't hunt with that thing." :p

that extra speed can catch you flat footed until you adjust mentally to the new trajectory. I was playing wiht two bows today, the '72 PM/TD Hunter which is no slouch considering its age, it still send'em downrange at nearly 200fps, but I was also trying to set up a new NAP plunger-rest for the Mizar with the pse limbs which is a 220-225 bow and there was nearly half a foot of difference at 20 yards.
at least the foam critters don't feel pain

DWS, I'm not foam, and I felt the PAIN!!
The folks that took this old geezer around today, did a great job, I didnt loose an arrow. By the time we got to the last 10 targets I was improving. Even had a run where I hit 3 tens in a row. Had a run of 5 eights in a row on the second 10. I know that is nothing for you good shooters, but it gives me hope for me and the bow.
Any one reading this confession, remember, never hunt a critter, other than foam with an untried, untested, untuned bow. (grrrr)

nice post grey ghost
I like the enthusiasm and the story. You took us along with you and there was some good information on the shelf stuff. Then you tripped and backed up and are going to hit it again. Every one of us remembers those incidents, and dreads the ones ahead of us. Thanks for sharing and when you get your shelf rest setup the way you like it post back up with some photos and experience.

Worked on tuning the Warfer to suit me some today. Went to the store and bought some (Hillman brand) Flat nylon washers (1-1/4 X .516 1/16) and some (3/8 X 1-1/4 X 1/16) Rubber washers. Used a pair of prunning shears and cut them to fit the limb pockets under the limb. Placed a rubber, nylon, nylon and rubber in that order. Put the limbs back on and cranked it down. Not a squeak out of them, no rattle, etc. Put it on the scales and it drew 48# @ 28". Without the washers yesterday, I had it cranked down as far as it would go. So I am guessing it must have been 55# or more. In any case it felt much better this way and shot like a dream, right off the shelf.
Up top this point I have really only liked my longbows. But my Black Widow made me at least consider this other side of the archery world. Now that I have my Warfer, I have to say to folks, its far cheaper to get a Warfer, and they shoot as good as, or better than the BW. Both have that positive feel in your hand.

"Up top this point I have really only liked my longbows"
I know how that is. :) Not only have they got me shooting these things but it has boiled over to my longbow as well. Now the longbows just don't feel right without a couple pounds of metal in the middle.

Uh-oh... dare ya to go say that elsewhwere. LOL
I had a Widow once and it was a great shooting bow, but would also agree with that statement. ;)
