Greetings,
First, I'd like to say 'thanks' for your comments on my thread regarding 3-under and split finger shooting. Gave me much to consider.
I have several excellent dissertations on traditional archery but I would to add one or two titles that are more pertinent to target archery.
Something that deals with shooting techniques and mental aspects of the game. I prefer to study books but I'd be interested in any VHS/DVD titles that address this topic, as well.
Your recommendations would be appreciated.

My first recommendation would be Rick McKinney's The Simple Art of Winning. It deals with both technique and the mental game. Another excellent book on what's going on in your head is Understanding Winning Archery by Al Henderson. Precision Archery by Steve Ruiz Claudia Stevenson has chapters by a number of people, including tuning, technique, mental aspects and more.
That's a starting place,
Dave

One of the best books I've read on modern archery is called Archery in Earnest by Roy Matthews. As with the Archersreference, (which I'm assuming you've already down loaded!) it's geared toward Olympic style shooting. I approach most books these days with a fair amount of scepticism, but after the first couple of pages. all I could say was, "this guy gets it".

One that has helped me a lot is Kidwell's "Instinctive Archery Insights"------ in spite of it's title. He is a professor of psychology and a bowhunter and deals with the mental aspects of shooting and how the brain/eye connection works. Its not all esoteric though very down to earth with a lot of very practical info. It did more than anyhting else to help me break out of the Asbellitus habits I'd gotten trapped into.
3Rivers and others carry it or you can order directly from the author--let him make all the profit and save on the minim um postage costs to boot.

Viper and others,
I just went looking for Archery in Earnest. Barnes & Noble doesn't have it in stock. Amazon.com has it for $19.95, just in case anyone's intersted. As for some of the others, Lancaster Archery Supply has most of them.

3rivers and KustomKing carry books too, but most of them tend to be in the instinctive side of the trad game. 3rivers has a lot of hunting oriented stuff too.
FWIW the first copy of Kidwell's book I got came via interlibrary loan from the olympic archery facility in colorado----bet they've got a BUNCH of good books out there.

Dumb luck, I found Archery in Earnest in our local public library. They actually had more than I expected, even a old worn copy of Fred Bear's World of Archery .
DA - Thanks. After reading Matthews book, I actually ordered a copy from Amazon. Some times I need a refresher, and it's a quick pick me up/reality check. Just a warning it's based on TARGET archery, isn't a broadhead mentioned.

Viper,
Because of the kind of bows I shoot (metal riser take downs) I find I have more in common with the target shooters than with the squat and grunt crowd. That wasn't really a shot at G.Fred, was it? (smiley face goes here).
You won't find anything about broadheads in McKinney's book either. I do pretty good with these folks until they start talking about the sights or stabilizers, then they loose me. Maybe when I actually know what the heck I'm doing I'll write a book about barebow recurve shooting. It should be a lost art by then (LOL again).

Who needs a stinkin video, when you can spend four days with G Fred at the BW facility for a mere $400. :)

I'm sending Prof. Kidwell $14 as soon as I can get the ink to dry on the check.
