I was in Vietnam when then early M16's were out in the med 60' we had a lot of problems with them got a few guys killed when you would sleep at night in the field if you did not eject the round that was in the chamber all night it would jam something about the condensation in the chamber we found that out the hard way

A great piece of history. Thanks for posting that article. It is amazing how far that platform has come in terms of accuracy, utility, and reliability. It is a terrible shame the delays that had to be endured when lives were being lost. Politics and ego can be horribly expensive.
