I need a plastic grip for a bear black bear. I went looking on line but I don't see where Bear has a web page. I don't know who to contact to purchase one.
Can you guys give me an idea of where to get one AND are there different wrist grips a guy can get?????? High, Medium or Low????
Much appreciated.
Thanks,
Lane

Lane, the Black Bear riser I have for my Ultra-Kodiak has a cast metal grip. I have my eye on a couple other Black Bear and Bear Cub compounds, waitng for the "asking" to go down. none of them have provisions for add on grips either but maybe there is some other type of "Black Bear" out there.
The ones I have access to could easily be built up to any shape with bondo, rubber or plastic wood, but as it is they have no provision for a screw-on grip. I personally like a slim grip and the metal ones work fine for me. I may eventually try to come up with something that will be thin but warm in cold weather that will add some more support for a higher wrist grip, using the hollow on the side of the grip to hold a chemical glove heat pac in cold weather.

Look at the bow of James Wrenn in post number six of this thread
http://tradtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188
Same thread you can see Scooters Black Bear in post number 15.
James bow is also shown here

You can see where there is a plastic slip on grip that is typical of the Bear Black Bear bow. I think the Jennings Lightning is the same riser.
However, Man you have a GREAT idea in setting a grip up to use those heat pacs.
Anyone know a good dealer that might have an extensive catalog ordering system for Bear showing the individual parts and part numbers?

They are the same on the 2 I have.I have a Black Bear that is a twin to my Jennings.I am sorry but the only grip I have is the one on the riser.

Bear/Jennings made the same riser up until just a couple years ago, they made that riser for many years, some dealer must have a catalog or phone number you could get, I'm sure Bear will have some grips for sale, I don't think they made any higher or lower grips for the bow, just the one that came on it and it's a pretty well designed grip....Bob

yeah, those grips came on the Black Bear compound, and a bunch of others, including the Minuteman and 76'er recurves and the mag handled takedowns. They are real hard to come by. Maybe your best bet is to buy a junker 76'er and salvage the grip. I see them used from time to time, for about $15.00.
They came in 1,2,and 3 grip, which corresponds to low, medium, and high pistol grip.
Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the note Gene.
I used to shoot the mag handled takedowns and had all their grips. I don't think the compound black bear is the same grip. It has a locating detent inside the grip that I don't remember on the mag T/D. That said once I find a stock grip that will likely be the one I stay with as they are a nice fit for me and my style. I'll have to see if I have any more of those old grips and how they fit.
'the other dws' has one headed to me so hopefully that one is correct.
Thanks for all the help.

I looked at the other picture you noted, and you are right. It's a different grip. I may have one that came from a Jennings bow. I'll take a pic of it and post it here later. If it works for you, you can have it.

Lane,
Let's face it, man. Those Bear Black Bears are more trouble than they are worth. The best thing you can do is get rid of that pesky rascal immediately.
As a favor to you, because you are a member of this forum, and because I am a good guy, I will take it off your hands for $15. I will even pay the shipping.
Don't tell the other guys on this forum...(especially Bob Gordon) about this offer. They will simply try to take advantage of my good nature by unloading their old Black Bears! I simply can't help everyone out!
Your pal,
Mike
PS: I don't need the limbs :) (unless they are FITA - then I guess I'll spring for the extra shipping...)

Well, I looked, and I don't have what I thought I had. Sorry. :sbrug: In the same spirit of esquire's altruistic post, however, I'll trade you the grip I do have straight across for your riser, and then you can try to find a riser to fit my grip! How's that for generous???
April Fool's Day is running a bit long this time around, huh?
