Well, last year I spent the year shooting mostly cedars, mainly because they felt more traditional to me. However, they were not as durable as I would have liked.
I moved to a thin walled aluminum shaft. It was much easier to find a shaft to tune and way easier to reorder matching shafts. However, over time you will bend a shaft or two.
Currently (within the last few weeks) I have been shooting some Gold Tip XT's, I find that I need quite a bit of weight up front but they fly great. I have heard that there can be some unreasonable spine variations with certian carbons and that concerns me. However, with the 6 I have been shooting I can see no difference in either the flight or the groupings. If they continue to shoot the way they have, they may be what I use this year.

I like the Carbon Revolution speed pro max shafts. They allow me to use a full length shaft that is under 300 grains complete, and that is stiff enough for a 52 pound recurve.
I wish they were cheaper, and more durable. But they arent and I deal with it.

Since I shoot in the Longbow Class it's cedars made for me by Paul Jalon of Elite Arrows. Spined at 40#, cut to 27" bop, 100gr heads, three 4" feathers, bohning classic index nocks. They shoot bullet holes thru paper out of a 68" Art Adkins, 41# longbow. Occasionally I'll take my full FITA rig, with long rods, v-bars, Sure-Loc Extreme, etc and shoot in the Compound Open Class. Then it's 660 cartels, cut to 28.5", 120gr point, and 1.87" flex-fletch vanes out of a 41# Samick Agulla. Occasionally, I'll even out-point the compounders with this rig, which always gives me a grin.
