Dug out some old 2213's and shot a round. Bout seemed like cheating, they are so big. Great linecutters, but are they legal? How fat an aluminum shaft are we allowed by official rules? Craig :help:

Not sure about the rules, but have seen many guys in 300 "leagues" using the "Fat Boy" shafts that are equivalent to a 25/64 shaft. If they're using them in leagues (and these boys are serious), I doubt that a 22/64 is illegal.
Even saw a new fat boy model that someone had the other day, it was a 27/64 or 29/64 diameter.... looked like a dang cut-off pool cue stick. It had a new type of uni-bushing nock insert. Was sort of stair-stepped with a pin sticking out of it on the end that fit up into the nock to prevent the insert from being driven up into the shaft when hit.

Don't believe NFAA has restrictions (yet) on indoor rounds vs arrow diameter. FITA does, though.
Honestly, the difference and never been more than a few points between, a 1914 and a 2213. It competetion is that tight, then guess you have to use every edge you can get. I like 1914s...

I,ve been told by a few guys that fat arrows will give ya an extra 5 points and my skinny carbons are close enough often enough that I tend to think that would be true.
Ofcourse I,m an odd ball and shoot the same equipment I plan to hunt with and not a light wieght target bow.Someday maybe I,ll try one of those but hunting is a big part of the reason I want to be as good as I can.I used ta shoot an 80# hard cam bow with fixxed pins for field archery too LOL

I have to shoot woodies now that i shoot IFAA Longbow, But for many years i shot 2213 X7's. I shot them with a 100gr pile and low profile 2 1/2 " fletchings. They were slow but accurate and the low profile fletch helped to reduce the effect of crosswinds on the longer shots. I soon lost count of the number of times they gained me that extra point on a linecutter.
The old mantra still works. "Fat Arrows Wins"

:2cents: I believe 2314 are the max for NFFA

I just looked at the NFAA Constitution & By-Laws. Can't find any restriction on arrow size. In fact, "arrows" isn't even listed in the index.
FITA has a 9.3mm size limit, which works out to 23/64", so those 2314s someone mentioned would be legal in both NFAA and FITA.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like you covered the topic completely. Those 2213's seemed so large after the carbons I'd been using that I was curious. They are overspined for me anyway, just thought I'd try them since they were laying around. I suppose with that berger button, I could make them work, but probably won't. :thankyou:
