View Full Version : Are 3D scores climbing?
For years in MS, there was one guy who dominated 3D traditional. He was a disciplined semi gap shooter as best I can tell. If he showed up, he won.
But over the last 6 or 8 years (estimate on my part) he says that the level of competition has risen drastically and that his old scores won't come close anymore. He still finishes in the top few, but now gets beaten more than he wins.
Is it because we finally have a few serious shooters down here, or was this a trend?

Not knowing the particulars, but if that DIDN'T happen I'd be pretty nervous. Ya's kinda hope that the new guys would be overtaking the old timers sooner or later.

I,d speculate that the guys that came over to the stick side from the wheel side are finally learning to shoot.I know I,m better than I was a few yrs ago and I,ve seen many guys that don,t post scores or compete some don,t even keep score but they seem to shoot as well or better than I do.Not that thats great but it ain,t terrible LOL
I think all these bad shooters ya see are the guys that are just getting a feel for it or are only out there for the FUN and comerodery of it,When season opens they dust(literally) off their wheel bows and go huntin. What ya see at Denton isn,t what is in the woods in most case,s at least thats my take

I know my scores are alot better then last years. First shoot this year I was 92 points higher than I was last year. And the cool thing is, Im still workin out bugs. It would be totally awesome if i never peaked, and just kept progressing, but Im not holding my breath.

About 16 years ago when I was shooting in Indiana, there were alot fewer 'traditional' shooters. It seemed if you just shot decent, you could almost expect a top-place finish. Today that's hardly the case almost anywhere. I see more shooters getting serious with their accuracy and not settling for the old 'that's good enough for a stickbow'. I think it's a good thing to see the level of shooting effectiveness for traditional bows being realized.

Shot at Denton Hill last year and most the guys I watched seemed to be shooting really well, but then I was shooting with Mr Massie and Mr Callaway (name dropping again)
I have noticed the standard of shooting getting better over here in England, Some of the top English Longbow shooters are fantastic, in 2003 the Longbow winner was only 10 points behind the Recurve winner, seems like the Trad shooters scores get tighter every year. :)
I think it has a lot to do with the new trad point of view. I think a lot of us aren't satisfied saying "Well I shoot a longbow so this score is OK". Maybe I'm wrong but from what I see trad guys that I know don't see why we can't be as acurate as a compound guy. We just have to put in 100's of hours more practice to do it. Most of us love it though so that's no big deal. :2cents:
