Since my experience with medium length Oly limbs is that BH is best at 7.5"-8.0", I set up my Blk Bear with med. KAPs at 7.5. I've got foam cushions in the limb pockets, foam pads at the string/limb curve tangents and spiders 8" from the end tangents. I use a D-75, 12 strand, and I'm still pretty loud. Based on the above, I'm thinking I need to start working up on the BH. What are the rest of you folks finding via the best BH on a 64" BB Warf? I want to get it quieter but I'd hate to lose the 200-210 fps I'm getting at 7.5 gr./lb.
Thanks,
Mike

Based on my experience with my Black bear riser and med C+ 40lb limbs that Bob put together for me.
I use 14strd med d97 string and two string leaches when all tuned shot around 216fps.
And after padding and limb savers at the base of the limbs shot nice and quiet.
The string leach placement is a big factor in not loosing to much speed. Set them about ¼ string length spacing.
But first set up the brace height. By going 2 turns at a time then at the softest sounding spot go back 1 turn. Mark the BH then add the string leaches. Reset BH shoot a few and then check BH. Now after a few more shots drop the BH one turn at a time until the sound level is bothersome . then go up a turn You will find that if tuned correctly losing only about 4-6fps. The speed lose will not matter much until shooting over thirty yards.

OZ...The Black Bear riser with Oly limbs works fine from 8" to 8 1/2" I like it at 8 1/4" if you go much lower than 8" you will get a lot of string slap noise in the recurve, you won't lose much speed by going up a little in brace height but play around with it until you find the sweet spot...warf

Thanks, Van and Bob. Sounds like I need to move up about 1/2 in. in BH (puts me around 8") and then institute the string twist and test procedure. Man it's just unbelievable to get this kind of specific help just by putting up a thread here.

Oz, Bob recommended a brace height of 8 - 8 1/2" for my warfbow with short limbs. I started at 8" and ended up at 8 1/2". But I find that on all my recurves I end up on the upper end of recommended brace height. On one bow I am actually 1/8" past recommended brace height. Unusual, but it works for me.

Yeah, Ronin. It's also interesting how the brace height can vary from person to person within a known range. Based on Bob and Van's advice above, I've been experimenting. Two BB risers, one with long Hoyt PMs at 40# and the other with medium KAPs at 42#. My draw is 28.5. Here's what I found using Bob's range of 8-8 1/2', and Van's methodology. The Warf PM is now dead quiet at 8 1/4 and the KAP at 8 1/8. My silencing system is 1/2 a spider on each end about 6" from where the string touches the limb tip and a small piece of foam stuck through the string to muffle slap where the string meets the limb. No limbsavers - I use a limb pocket dampening medium that I feel cuts vibes as much as the savers. Basically, both bows are noiseless. Live and learn!

Might I suggest that you retune with bare shafts. The BH does affect the center of rotation of the shaft. As such a small amount of plunger adjustment will be necessary. If you do as suggested I’m not liable for any nocks that you might destroy.

I have just gotten a b bear riser that is set up to shoot off the self and find it to be quiter than my previuos Hoyt spectra (now on ebay) With the short KAP limbs it is now at 8 in. with FF and spiders.

I would have to say, Stick, that both my Warfs are now as quiet as any of my wooden risered recurves. Good point, Van. I'll be indoors at the range for two nights of bareshafting this weekend. I was originally able to bareshaft the HPM Warf out to about 30 yards when it was strung at 7 3/4. Hope to get at least that out of the current set-up with both the HPM and the KAP. Thanks for the advice.

It will probably cost you $35-45 to come up with a Black Bear riser on Ebay. You can get a set of KAP carbons from the Tradmall for about $190 (PB has some in stock right now, I think). The odds and ends of sheet aluminum, 3/8 od copper tubing, some JB Weld or epoxy and some rubber for gasket material to modify and quiet the limb pockets are probably all laying around your garage or shop right now. If not your cost will be under $15 for those. But here's the rub, Rope: If PB doesn't have the carbons in stock, you may wait as long for them as you do the DAS. An alternative is to go with a set of Quinn Stallion limbs (about $150) and do a QWARF.
