I had the opportunity presented to me this afternoon to buy a Border Black Douglas Swift T/D recurve at a very reasonable price. The riser is about a year and a half old and the Hex IV limbs, the latest generation of Border limbs, are 6 months old. Below is a link to pics of the bow. I'll take more and post them after I receive the bow:

I now have my Horne Ridge Runner up for sale on women-outdoors.com to pay for it. I had to choose between the Horne and the Marriah Thermal. The Thermal has some very personalized writing on it from Ric, so the decision was easy!

Bill,
The Horne Ridge Runner is a great, good looking bow but I can certainly see why you want the Border Douglas Swift T/D .............. the pictures are gorgous and I bet it's even better up close!!!
"Good shooting" with it. - John

Bill,
I think you are going to be very pleased with the Border. I recently got a pair of Border ILF limbs on eBay. I have been pleasantly surprised at their performance. I was always a Hoyt fan and thought their limbs were as good as it gets. Now I'm not so sure. Set in a Spigarelli riser these Border limbs out shoot (flatness of trajectory) the almost new M1 Hoyt limbs I have in another Spigarelli set at 1.5# more draw. The Borders are smooth all the way back to my silly 32.5" draw with no stacking what so ever. I'm so impressed I'm thinking about ordering another pair of limbs from Scotland.

Dave,
The HexIV limbs are the same T40 technology that's in your ILF limbs. It is of course in a T/D recurve configuration. I think I recall reading somewhere that these limbs have no wood in them. They are strictly carbon. I'll have to look and see. The pictures I see on the website certainly look like they have wood laminations from the side view of the limbs. The fella that sold me the bow also bought it used. The original set of limbs broke on him as he was drawing the bow. He contacted Sid Ball, the owner of Border, to see what it would cost him for a new set of limbs. Sid sold him the HexIVs, $695 retail limbs, at his cost of $275 and he was the second owner of the bow. Now that is customer service.

The Horne Ridge Runner is sold pending recipt of funds. That's about 71.5% of what I need to pay for the Border bow!! :) :amen:
Now to sell the Commanche Raider longbow and it will be completely paid for.

"The Borders are smooth all the way back to my silly 32.5" draw..."
Dave,
You ought to be ashamed of yourself! Do you know how much more energy you are getting out of a bow, even at low poundage, with your 32.5" draw than I am with my 27.75" draw? It's frightening to think about! :) :shooting:

Oh my gosh, what a sweet-looking bow! :D
I really like the way the limb-butts fit into the riser. Reminds of the Chek-Mate Hunter TD-56 used to have. Tight-looking grip, short sight window... very nice indeed. :)

Hello All,
Yes, Border makes lovely bows. My last one, Black Rob Roy also has hexVI limb laminates.
If I have understood right, Border uses the 4th generation carbon on the back (outer side) only and 3rd generation carbon on the belly because of its better comressional resitance.
At least in my bow there are two thin lams of elm? between the carbon layers.
The speed is crazy (600 grs carbon arrows, 65#, 29.5 draw, 217fps during the first tests).
Recently I installed an 8125 string and need new measurements . Let's see what our deer think about it in autumn.

I am soooo envious of you guys that own Border bows...I drool over their HEXIV limbs!
You have to tell us how it shoots. I have never shot one personally.

Black Wolf,
Get one!
My problem: there is only another bowhunter in our district, wheely guy, so I have a few problems to really compare it with other bows. The Black Rob Roy ( now named Heavy Horse [Jethro Tull]) is very tricky to handle and needs a lot of practizing. This bow is made very careful but as I wanted standard only there is nothing really fancy (FORD color).
I recently installed a 8125 string and it feels even faster. More chrono-tests necessary.
My pullover just got caught by the string: blue/red/yellow/green lower arm. I feel like an octopus, changing color all the time...
My hunting colleagues still giggle when I mention the bow. This might stop one day, when they see what happens during the hunt...
Until now I missed 4 rabbits with my rifle (15, 20, 250 yards). I really handle the bow much better.
When we open our moose-training track in May I will try the bow. Might be quite hard to hit the running paper moose (I like this expression) with a bow at 80 yards.
Unfortunately it seems very unlikely that we ever could go moose hunting in Finland.
White-tails should come this fall, helps a little. I have already an invitation in December. There will be A LOT of practicing necessary from those tree stands.
Papa Bull established a photo gallery. Need to give it a try. My pictures always happen to be too large and my wife and daughter cannot handle the sizing.
Have a look one day when I succeed.

Ray,
If you don't mind going to one of the other forums/boards, go to TradGang. Click on the link below:

There is a fella, Texan, that has a couple of posts. He has a Border Black Douglas Swift, 60", 50#@28", however, it has the XP-10 limbs. He was tallking about putting it on eBay. If you are at all interested, you might drop him an email and see what he wants for it BEFORE he puts it on eBay.
Scroll down until you see the post, I think his third one on the first page, where he describes his bow. You can click on his name and then send him an email.

Below is another link to my Webshots page with the Border bow. I rotated the two pics 90 degrees and used one of my photo programs to lighten the pic and add some contrast. I don't know for sure, but I think this is probably closer to what the bow looks like in good light conditions.

Bill,
Thank you so much for the lead...that was greatly appreciated, although I am mainly interested in the HEXIV limbs.
Thanks again!

Don't knock the XP-10 limbs guys. That's what I bought on eBay and their performance is way better than I ever imagined. They may not be the latest thing but they are better than average limbs in terms of performance (flatness of trajectory).

Ray,
You can go to borderbows.com and send Sid Ball an email, tell him what you are interested in, and it will cost you about $675-$695 for the HexIV limbs. That is for the T/D recurve, I don't know how much the International limbs cost.
