I am currently collecting materials to build my 1st all wood laminated bow, hicory, backed with osage limb cores. Part of this excercise is to learn to tiller a bow and arrive at the target weight. What glues are recomended? Is Gorilla glue a viable choice? It has arrived on the market since the traditional bowyers bible was printed. Any ideas? Critter

Urac 185 or Smooth On are the ones I would recommend. I would buy a glue that is designed for the stress that a bow will produce. I'm not sure how Gorilla Glue would hold up, but if you try it let us know how it turns out.

You can purchase those bow laminating glues at 3 Rivers or Binghams I beleive.

AS BW said, Urac or Smooth-on are the best options, if you want to spend the money. If you want to go cheap and local, for an all-wood bow, Tite Bond II from your local hardware works just fine. Its main drawback is that it's thinner than the epoxies mentioned above and therefore messier.

Gorolla glue won't work for bow limbs.

I would agree with Bill and stay away from gorilla glue. I remember reading on one of the forums that it has problems. I don't remember what the exact issues were. If you did a search in the titles over on the Leatherwall you can probably find the old threads.

Norseman over on LW has me hooked on Urac but a lot of guys over there have good success with Titebond II. Like Oz said "all wood bow". If you are planning to back it with bamboo most guys recomend you use urac or resorcenal (sp?) instead of the titebond.

From the muzzloading gunsmithing I do, I know that Gorilla glue is sensitive to flaws in application procedure. The joints must be wetted with water first before gluing up. I just was curious if anyone was using the stuff with any reliable sucess. :thankyou:

If I remember right the problem was that the gorilia glue dosnt want to flex when fully cured. This led to delamination problems.
