I ran across this about a month ago in my quest to get over a 2 month long upper respiratory infection. I thought I had already posted it.

This stuff really does help coughs, it also opens your sinuses and gives you more energy even if you aren't sick. I'm well and I'm still nipping on it. LOL

Adjust quanities to make the batch the size you want. I'm making it by the pint jar now.

4 Tablespoons water
2 Tablespoons local honey
2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

I get it hot on stove before bottling it, shake well before nipping.

Brad,

I think you need to hang out a shingle and start your own practice.

You forgot the bourbon. It doesn’t help the cough, but makes you not mind the second cup.

Brad,

You will appreciate this my grandad had a sure fire solution for chapped lips and licking chapped lips. He would just smear a little cow ---- on it and you would lick no more.

That just sounds good - I can feel a cough coming now.

Hey Brad, if only you posted this potion recipe last weekend! I would have whipped up a big batch of that stuff for myself for sure!
Your stuff looks a heck of lot better for a sick guy than Prednisone, Azrithromycin, albuterol sulfate and Cheratussin AC does.
Probably tastes better to.lol!
I'll jot the formula down right now, and add " with bourbon chaser", and put it in Suzy's recpie file for next time.
Thanks Doc.

Brad,

I think you need to hang out a shingle and start your own practice.

I learned my best doctoring tricks on cattle. They don't complain, most of the time.

van, I can't even stand the smell of whiskey. I'd be puking and coughing.

Matt, my dad has the same saying. He says the cow manure won't help your lips get better, but it will keep you from licking them so they can heal.

Sam, I did try honey and lemon juice. It worked pretty well but I couldn't sleep that night, I was on a sugar high.

Paul, I can sure relate. This was a bad bug. Tomorrow is my last day on my 3rd round of antibiotics in the past 8 weeks. Bloodwork showed an infection. It sure oughta be dead now. LOL

Mike, next time I kick over my spit cup I'll give it a try.

LOL

Don't forget the "three candle treatment" for flu:

1. Light a candle
2. Drink mixture of honey, lemon, and bourbon (or just the bourbon).
3. When you see three candles, blow out the middle one and go to sleep.

Repeat as necessary.

Best,

Steve

Rock Candy dissolved in moonshine is effective, as is lemon, honey and moonshine. Your cough might continue but you really don't care.

Brad,

I have some homemade cough syrup in the cabinet as we speak. My recipe is exactly the same as yours except I put it all in a base of moonshine. It will also make you break a fever like nobodies business.

Believe it or not, I don't think I could find any moonshine here if I had to. I've asked people about getting some, but nobody that I've talked to knows anyone who has a still anymore. That was sure not the case 20 or 30 years ago.

I don't know where it comes from exactly, but I get a little give to me every now and then for medicinal purposes.

A shot of Brandy or Bourbon straight, chased with a large spoonful of honey will kill the worst cough. I can usually remedy it with one or two shots. This even works better than steam.
