anyone else going to redding for the trail shoot and nfaa marked outdoor field?
got the map yesterday to see if the target distances etc are about the same.
targets vary from snails at 3 yards to bigfoot at 101 yards. lots in the fifty, sixty, seventy, and eighty yard catagory as well as the thirty and under!

redding ????? where, when. Most likely it,ll be to far for me.Local 3D,s will be starting actually they,ve started already I just haven,t made one yet.

You say outdoor field is that the field round 28 targets for a possible 560 ?

I,m hoping to hit 1 or 2 of those this yr it,s been a long long time since I did that

this is a 70 target shoot. two days. they usually have 1200-1400 shooters, 16-20 per group. half the group shoots the left targets half the right side. there are two or more animals at each target plus they create scenes using other animals and birds. the elk target is usually two bulls fighting at 88 yards. there are 15-20 cows and calves scattered all around the two target animals. it's a pretty awesome venue. theres a pro money shoot, the redding trail shoot and the nfaa marked outdoor national championships all at the same time. redding is in california. northern part near mt. shasta.
our local shoots start this weekend at richland wa. and two weeks to moses lake where i will meet bob gordon, then redding first weekend in may, and then the north american longbow safari in comox b.c., canada.

Sent my registration in last Saturday. It would be great if I could shoot with you two. (How did you talk Bob into going to Ca.)

i'm going to see bob in moses lake! i'm going to redding with gail martin and his grandson ryan. we're going to shoot in a 20 man squad put together by a guy from bcy fibers. most people in the group are manufacturers, like dave gordon, tom saunders, etc.. should be fun.
don't know if bob is going to redding or not. gail and i signed up at las vegas on a whim. he's never been there.
wow, you are traveling a bit! where are you staying?

Don’t know where I will be staying yet. My travail agent (wife) hasn’t booked it yet. (Any suggestions.) (why do I have recurring thoughts of when she was a enrolled IRS agent, we had two extensions before she filed our taxes.)

I'll be there! I still need to fill out my registration and send it in. It is a spectacular shoot. :)

As for lodging, I sleep in my vehicle or in a tent, depending on the weather. There is a dry camping area across the street from the range. I prefer to be on site, it allows me a fuller experience of the tournament, and more time to visit with friends. More economical too.

Larry might know more of the hotels and motels in town. It helps to shop around. There always seems to be plenty of rooms available for lodging and a variety of eats, from buffets to Thai food.

If you mean Bob Destin when you asked about Bob, Bob and his son Chris have been making it out to Redding for quite some time. Those guys are great! They run the BCY booth and bring plenty of material and information with them.

See you later,

Larry

the last time i was there i stayed at the best western ponderosa
2220 pine street
ph. 530-241-6300
fax 530-241-4959

i like it because it's cheap, clean and handy to the shoot, the thai restaurant, and has a fresh seafood place right across the street and a good american place adjoining the parking lot for breakfast.

the motels across 1-5 are considered safer and are more expensive as a rule.
my rate at the ponderosa this year is 57.00 and they blocked a ground floor room for me.
if you type in "straight arrow bowhunters" it will take you to the sponsoring clubs website and you can download maps, motel info, the course target by target etc.
look forward to seeing you again larry y. and meeting you, van!
we are shooting with bob destin. he had the group made up before we left vegas i think.

Larry H. is there any way we can talk you into bringing down some Martin recurve and longbows to give a "try" at the practice range? I was hoping to shoot the Savannah last year but there wasn't one to be found.

Anything you think might be interesting would fit the bill, of course I like the 40-45# bows for testing.

Van, how are your lodging arrangements taking shape?

I sent in my registration this week, and look forward to shooting up in Redding. I hope some of you tradtalk'ers get the gumption to shoot Redding, it's worth the trip!

I was really hoping to go this year, but it doesn't look like I'll be making it :(

I'll make it to one of the big northern CA shoots eventually...

Larry U/Larry H

I will be staying at the best western ponderosa as Larry Hatfield suggested, The clencher was that I haven’t had any decent Thai food since leaving the Bay area in California 12 years ago. I’m drooling all over the Key board now. Hope to meet up with both of you. i will be arriving fri afternoon. :)

I am already getting excited about Redding, seeing old friends, catching up from last year.

It'd be great to see what's in the works Larry H. and no worries on the Savannah I don't want it to be a hassle for you. What I would really like is an autographed picture from all your "Martin Babes", holding those impressive stickbows of course!

Larry Y. :)

i may be able to arrange that. we only have one model, terry martins daughter. shes pretty nice and patient about the autograph thing! is your wife going to be with you larry? i'm by myself although gail and ryan martin will be there, we are traveling separately.

My wife will not be joining me on the Redding trip. I'll miss not shooting with her, she has great form!

I'm up for Thai food on Saturday, and I hear there is a new bridge in Redding with architectural significance.
